(Sterling)
Walking back into the pack house, I quickly slipped on some basketball shorts before heading towards my office. Instead of continuing our training for the day, Hunt and I decided to do a quick patrol around our borders, making sure nothing else seemed out of the ordinary.
I have no clue where this so-called "beast" goes after killing these rogues, but they must be hiding somewhere nearby. Over the past few years, the Rogue population has seemed to be thinning.
Honestly, that isn't necessarily a bad thing.
Yeah, some rogues end up becoming that way from circumstances they can't quite control. Like if their Alpha was challenged and killed, the new Alpha might possibly banish the pack members who chose to try and protect their previous Alpha.
In situations like those, the wolves are harmless and just need a new pack to call home.
But in these instances, the rogues that we have been coming across these past few years have been rogues for a very long time.
These rogues were usually made that way by banishment. Meaning they might've committed some type of crime in their old packs and were kicked out. Resulting in them wandering outside of pack boarders and trying to survive off of the land.
So, if anything, whatever creature is doing this has actually been helping us. We haven't experienced a rogue attack in three years. Before that, it had to be a monthly accurance.
"Alpha Sterling, welcome back! Your lunch is waiting on your desk like you requested. Will Gamma Hunter be joining you?" Lydia, one of our omegas asked sweetly before following behind me. She was a small little thing. Her blonde hair, fair skin, and brown eyes made her look even more frail as she scurried around like a little mouse.
"Not today. He had to finish up a few things."
I'm pretty sure she has a thing for Hunter, but then again, most of the omegas did. It doesn't help that he's a shameless flirt. Hunt says he is still trying to hold out for his mate.
But unlike me, he has the ability to find other women attractive. So I have noticed it's been harder and harder for him to keep it in his pants. It's actually pretty hilarious when he digs himself into a hole by being too flirty. Watching him try to get out of those types of situations is so f*****g entertaining to me.
Once, I even walked into the training room looking for Hunter, only to find a woman stripped down to her underwear. She had been waiting for him for a while apparently, and he was hiding in the supply closest and linked me to come save him.
She couldn't even meet my gaze after that one for a good two months.
Everyone in the pack knows not to even try that type of s**t with me. Well, almost everyone.
"Oh, Alpha! I almost forgot..."
"Well, there you are, I was wondering when you would be back."
The moment I heard her damn voice, I froze, making Lydia go crashing into my bare back, causing her to let out a squeak.
Oh, goddess no.
"Ivy, you're here." I grumbled, feeling my wolf snort before mumbling a few choice words that I rather not repeat.
Yeah, Apollo isn't her biggest fan. Then again, neither am I. But dad is... well, he is desperate enough to be.
To him, Ivy Walker is my number one candidate to be Silver Fang's future luna.
I watched as the petite woman began walking towards me. She had on a white pantsuit and brown heels. Her black hair was cut just below her ears, and slicked back, making her look like she had just left some type of high-profile business meeting or something.
I watched as her eyes drifted down to my bare chest, making them spark with what I believed was desire as she went in for a hug.
"Ooh, sorry, I just went for a run. Don't want to ruin your clothes." I blurted before stepping to the side and putting my hands up.
"I don't mind getting a little dirty. Especially for you Sterling." She smirked, making my gaze snap to Lydia as she looked away uncomfortably.
"Is there something you need? Lydia and I were just about to go over a few things to prepare for the banquet. " I lied, needing some type of excuse to get out of this.
Lydia just looked at me with surprise before swallowing hard and standing up straighter. I could tell she was scared of Ivy. Most omegas were considering she was an Alpha's daughter. The pack where Ivy comes from, Iron Cave, had more of a traditional stance with their pack. Meaning omegas don't have much say in the roles they take. They are there to serve.
Here at Silver Fang, we give them options. Obviously, everyone has their role in a pack, but no two wolves are the same, so we let our members follow their strengths rather than keep them in that stereotypical box.
I watched as Ivy looked Lydia over, catching the sneer that settled on her face before it quickly morphed into one of those fake smiles she gave when people were annoying her.
"Lydia, do you think you might be able to grab me some water? My throat feels a little dry." She attempted, making me sigh as I started walking towards my office.
"There's no need, I have water in my personal fridge." I said over my shoulder, knowing that would annoy Ivy even more.
'Someone needs to come save me right f*****g now, Ivy is here.' I quickly linked to my Beta and Gamma, realizing she would try everything to get me alone with her.
'Oh goddess, please tell me she is wearing that tight little skirt again.' Hunter responded, making me roll my eyes as I pushed open my office door.
Apparently, he thinks Ivy is one of the hottest women he has ever seen. I just don't see it, though. I mean, yeah, her face isn't bad to look at, but then again, she isn't pretty either. Just... normal.
'Sure, just come take her off of my hands. Better yet, take her as your chosen mate Hunt. That will save me many headaches.' I teased, knowing it wasn't going to happen.
"So, what did you want to talk about?" I asked Ivy, grabbing a hoodie Lydia must've left for me on the back of my chair and quickly pulled it on.
I could hear the sound of Ivy's heals clicking behind me before stopping just a few feet away.
"Well, it is a rather private matter..." She began, glancing towards a meek looking Lydia who was now standing in the corner awkwardly.
Fuck, I guess it isn't fair to subject her to this.
"Fine, Lydia, will you please wait outside for a moment?"
She didn't need me to ask twice. I watched her small frame scurry away hurriedly before shutting the door, leaving Ivy and I alone. This is exactly what I was afraid of.
I swear the moment Lydia left, I could smell it. That desire Ivy seemed to have for me began to fill the room as my face scrunched up in disgust. It wasn't appealing in the slightest. In fact, it kind of made me want to throw the window open and jump right out of it.
"Sterling, darling." She purred, stepping towards me as she went to place her hand on my chest. But before she could, I ducked down, reaching for my personal fridge instead.
"You said you wanted water?" I asked, making her freeze as a pout formed on those full red lips.
"Sterling, you can't keep avoiding this. If you don't find your fated at the banquet, you know you have to make a decision soon after."
"We will find her." Apollo slipped out, catching Ivy off guard as her eyes widened in response.
That's when she pressed her lips together tightly, dropping that sweet act.
"If you don't, people are going to start talking. Without a Luna, your pack is weakened. And you know that is the truth. Why not have a back up plan?" She began, reaching her hand out to grab the water before brushing it across my own in the process.
I felt nothing.
"And what about your fated?" I asked, seeing her eyes blink rapidly as she shifted on her feet uncomfortably. Ivy was only two years younger than me, and it was rumored she found her mate and rejected him the night of her 18th birthday. It's said he was a lower ranked warrior.
"That's already been handled."
I looked at her carefully, trying to see if she had any sense of guilt or remorse as she stood there and straightened her jacket, not seeming bothered in the slightest.
I honestly don't think she cared. But then again, her own father decided to choose a mate over his fated as well, so maybe it was expected of her.
'We would never do such a thing.' Apollo hissed, growing appalled by Ivy more by the second.
"I think you should just consider my option. Our packs are already familiar with one another, and hey, if you meet your fated down the line, I can let you keep her as a mistress."
Before I could even react to that statement, Hunter came bursting into the room, making relief flooding through me. Thank the goddess.
But what he said next, was the last thing I expected to hear.
"Alpha, the white beast has been spotted. Two of our men have caught it's scent just south of Raven Head. They are nearing it's location now."
"Gather the warriors, we will head out right away." I rushed, forgetting all about Ivy and her proposition as I quickly raced from my office.
The beast has been found.
