Kai and I walked side by side, the quiet of the valley interrupted only by the distant murmurs of the camp. The evening sky stretched endlessly above us, covered with shades of purple and red hues. Despite the recent battles, there was a strange calm because I was finally alone with Kai. I turned to him, feeling the ache of time spent apart. His eyes softened as he met my gaze, as if seeing me for the first time in what felt like years. Neither of us spoke. We didn’t need to. The distance between us, though only a few inches, felt unbearable. All I wanted was to close it. Kai reached out, his fingers brushing against my cheek, sending a spark of warmth through me. I leaned into his touch, savoring the simple contact. His hand slid to the back of my neck, pulling me just a little closer.
