Before I can fully process how dancing with Evelyn made me feel, I’m bombarded by a crowd of females pawing at me. Their various scents and aggressive thoughts agitate my wolf.
I had worried that this might happen when Minister Surrey suggested a selection banquet. This is why we originally settled on only three women at a time. My wolf gets overwhelmed too easily, and when he’s overwhelmed, I lose control of him.
Sophia slides her arm around my elbow, linking us together, but I immediately shake her off, warning her to back off. Frightened by my reaction, she drops to her knees and begs for mercy. The other women take a few fearful steps back, too.
I would rejoice in the space they’re giving me if I didn’t have to focus so much of my energy on keeping my wolf at bay.
