Chapter 16 No Turning Back

1134 Words
"What is it?" Todd asked impatiently. Paul immediately replied, "Here's the case, Mr. Burton. I have a classmate named Simon Floyd. He's somehow gotten rich lately and he's being a complete d**k about it. He doesn't even show my family any respect. But, of course, he's probably just a small fry in front of you. He's been giving me a really tough time. What I'm saying is that, um, can you help me handle that brat? In exchange, I will be your man and do whatever you ask." Todd was still impatient. "Don't bother me over the matter of such a little punk. What's so hard about dealing with him? Roland, bring your men and settle it." "Yes, sir," Roland said promptly. "Thank you! Thank you, Mr. Burton!" Paul said excitedly, "From now on, you're my boss. If you ever need me, don't hesitate to ask!" "Yeah, yeah, let's put that aside. Come, let's drink." Todd raised his glass. "Yeah, let's drink! Here's to you," Paul said fawningly. Meanwhile, Simon was back in his villa. He had just finished dinner and was lying on a cozy sofa, enjoying the experience of using expensive furniture and admiring the look of his luxurious living room. It felt really nice to be rich. The sudden ringing of his phone snapped him out of it. It was a call from Heidi. He hesitated for a second but still answered the call. "Hello." "Simon, where are you?" Heidi asked. He could barely hear her voice amid the noise from the other end of the line. It sounded like she was at a bar. "Home. What is it?" "Nothing… Don't worry about me… I'm just thinking about you…" Heidi sounded like she was drunk. "Are you at a bar?" "I'm drunk…" "Which bar?" Simon asked, feeling his heart soften. "I'm at Orion…" "Are you alone?" "Who would come with me?" Heidi asked, her voice sounding slurred and bleak. "Don't go anywhere and wait for me. I'm on my way." Simon could not entirely put her behind him. She had been, after all, his girlfriend for more than a year. However, he understood very well that he was just feeling a sense of regret over his relationship with Heidi. His feelings at the moment had nothing to do with love. He ended the call, picked up his house key, and left home. He took a cab straight to the bar. When he arrived at the Orion and entered the door, he instantly found Heidi sprawled over a round table in the packed venue. A young man with dyed blonde hair was sitting beside her, speaking to her. When he made his way toward them, the young man stood up and tried to lift Heidi up. His hands strayed further to touch her chest… "Stop!" Simon shouted. Caught off guard, the young man turned his head and said nastily, "Who the hell are you?" "I'm her friend. Who the hell are you?" Simon retorted. "I'm her friend too." "Really? Then tell me. What's her name?" Simon asked. "She… I don't know. I didn't ask." The young man's expression looked unnatural. "F*ck off!" Simon said, looking down at him with a contemptuous expression. "Who do you think you're yelling at?" The young man raised his hand to push him. Simon reacted faster than him. He turned his hand over and pinched the man's hand, causing the latter to scream in pain. "Man, that hurts! Let go!" Simon shoved him forward. "Get lost!" With an embarrassed expression, the young man left hastily. It seemed that the tricks he had learned from Katya were proving to be very useful, even though he was still a complete rookie at them. How powerful would he be if he could become as good as Katya? Simon gave Heidi's arm a little push. "Heidi! Heidi!" Heidi opened her eyes in a daze and said, "You still came for me…" "Why did you drink so much?" Simon asked, frowning at the smell of alcohol on her body. "No one wants to talk to me. No one cares about me. You're all the same…" Heidi said, her voice indistinct in her drunken stupor. Simon grabbed her arm and helped her up. "Let's go. I will take you home." "No. I don't want to go home. I want to drink…" He ignored her and helped her out of the bar. Outside, Heidi was still putting up a fight. "I don't want to go home, no, I don't want to… My roommates are all laughing at me…" Simon sighed. "Where do you want to go?" "I'm not going back. I'm staying out… You never had any money to get me a hotel room. Now that you're rich, you should take me to a hotel…" Heidi said. Simon pursed his lips helplessly. He looked around and found a decent-looking hotel nearby. "Come on. I will take you to that hotel." He helped Heidi walk to the hotel, where he got her the most expensive room. Opening the door, he saw that it was a pretty fancy room. It was warm and cozy, lavishly decorated, and had all the amenities that one could dream of. He brought Heidi inside and put her on the bed. "Get some rest and take a bath when you're up. I'm leaving." He turned around to leave. A soft hand grabbed him. "Don't go. Simon, don't go. Stay here with me…" Simon sighed and shrugged her hand off. He insisted on leaving, so Heidi hugged him from behind. "Don't go, Simon. For a long time, I have wanted us to spend a night at the hotel but you were too poor… Now that you're rich, you want to leave instead… Don't go…" she said, and surprisingly started to cry. Gritting his teeth, Simon turned around and looked straight at her. "Is that my fault? Are you under the illusion that things are still the same now? Everything has changed. There's no turning back." "No, nothing has changed… Simon, don't go. I want to be with you. I will never leave you again, okay?" Heidi tightened her arms around Simon's waist and kissed him. Simon turned his face away and forcefully pushed her away. How often had he fantasized about this in the past! But this fantasy was no longer his concern. "Don't do this, Heidi! Don't you get it? I don't love you anymore!" Simon said, his expression solemn. Even though Heidi was drunk, she was still clear-headed. When she heard his words, she felt that her last trace of hope had vanished as well. Even so, she still wanted to try. Simon turned his head and said, "You're drunk. Go rest." He turned away from her and left the room without looking back, closing the door shut behind him.
