"Forget the past; it's all done."      ELAINE POV "It's your girl, Eelaineeeeeeeee yuhhh oh yeah!" I tried to mimic an intro of my favorite YouTuber and I can't stop laughing whenever I watched his videos. Suddenly, I heard knockings on the door. That's my dad, by the way. Who else? "Come in!" I shouted and immediately grabbed a book nearby and pretended to be studying. My dad wanted me to read books in the morning, then I can do whatever I wanted in the evening. Wanna know why? Later... The room became silent as he entered my room and I took a glimpse of him lowering my book and letting my eyes to be exposed. "Aherm…" I looked at my back and he eyed me. I smiled awkwardly. "It seems that you're not a good actress..." He pointed the computer monitor and I smiled defensively "Ahmm, Dad. Let me explain..." He sighed and looked at the windows "Elaine, do I need to reprimand you every day? You can't pour too much attention in things like that. Because you might love them." I lowered my head to frustration. Darn this phobia. "I'm sorry, Dad. But why can I love you when I can’t love anyone?" I asked "It is because you're my daughter and we knew each other well. It takes time for your phobia to be safe. Different case, if you already knew that person for a long time." He patted my head and hugged me. "Dad, can I go to a proper school?" He looked at me. "You already knew the answer. Why?" I sighed and looked at the windows, then took a shallow breath that is more of a sigh. How I wish that someday, I can mingle with every person outside and feel love even for a second. Then, I will embrace them with care and tranquility. But I can't do it to them because I have this phobia of love and trust. I don't know why I got this but my dad told me that when my mother was carrying me, she was suffering from heart failure. She can't carry a child in her tummy but she was so determined to have a kid even though my father disagreed with her. He can't do anything because he even wanted to have a child, too. They only believed at a miracle that time. "Dad, will I get a cure for my phobia?" He looked at me a little and opened the door of the veranda in my room. "Phobia is not the only problem, Elaine and you know that. It's too risky for you to get out and feel what others feel. You'll die." I lowered my head and prevented myself from walking through him. I can feel a tear on my right eye and I wipe it softly. "Come here." I took a little step towards him and hold the railings of my veranda. I could see houses and trees. This place is too peaceful and screaming with purity. I wonder what a day in the school is like. Seeing students in uniform, laughing and some are gleaming. There are also some annoying couples on the sides. "It's too early for this drama," my dad exclaimed. I looked at him with disbelief. "You started this!" He just chuckled. My father really thinks he is still a teenager. The way he speaks and dresses is so stylish and fashionable. Well I can't deny my father still has the looks. "Well, milady you answered me." I just hold my head with disbelief and March inside my room. "Let's eat breakfast first before going to the city." I look at him with astonishment. "Are we gonna go to the city??" I can't contain my happiness because this is so unpredictable. He only allows me to linger at night. "Of course, it's your day." He smiled and I immediately remember one thing. "It's my birthday! God!! How did I even forget? DAD!!!" I shouted.   THIRD PERSON POV   Elaine rushed down the stairs and ate her breakfast. Then she headed back to her room to change her clothes. She just grabbed any clothes, typically t-shirts and jeans then she's good to go. She also tied her hair and sprayed a little perfume on her clothes. Well, she wanted to smell good. Who doesn't? "Elaine?" Her dad called her as she is busy putting a small amount of powder on her face and exclaimed right through the mirror admiring her own image "This is beauty... Coming up, dad!" She rushed downstairs and headed to their car. "Where are we going, Dad?" she asked and turned on the radio. "To your favorite mall! We're watching a movie!" Elaine giggled and her dad smiled widely. They reached the mall and decided to watch a movie wherein the main character is suffering from a skin illness that prohibited her to stay out especially in the morning. The disorder is called xeroderma pigmentosum which causes extreme irritation from exposure to sun. The lead character has to stay indoors during the day behind special windows, but can go out at night. Well, in end she eventually died when she chose love for the last time. Elaine walked silently heading to the garden and seated at the fountains, touching the water and looking at her own reflection. He feel someone patted her shoulders and she saw her father bringing an ice cream. "Do you still think of that movie?" Elaine composed herself before turning her head to him. "Not really, Dad" He handed the ice cream and sat behind his daughter. "You are too far from being like that, Elaine. You will not die..." Elaine just smiled at her dad and started to eat her ice cream. "We have the same case. She has illness and I got phobia but I'm still thankful for being capable of things that she cannot do." Elaine talked like she is so determined with her life. "Elaine, I think we should go home," her dad exclaimed like he is pleading and holding his tummy. Elaine thinks that her dad is constipated. She just nodded and followed her dad as he walked into their car. Elaine doesn't know why but her dad is so sweaty. Is he gonna really feeling discomfort with his stomach? As soon as they reached their house, she suddenly ran out of the car while her dad is releasing some odd fart that smelled like 100-year old rotten fruit left in a closet. Elaine decided to bring the groceries in since her father is busy figuring out how many s**t he will endure. "Ahmm, you need help?" Someone asked me while I was bringing some large boxes going to the house. "Nah really... Ahhhh, oops!" She suddenly tripped and luckily someone got her into his arms. "Oh…" Elaine seemed speechless after seeing the Greek God posture and aesthetics of this man. Suddenly, Elaine feels uneasy until he holds her hands. "I'm White, by the way! You're new neighbor." "Ahh, hi..." Elaine felt uneasy to breathe but she managed it. Still, she can't deny the handsome face of her new neighbor. Elaine shrugged of the thought and immediately get those groceries and headed inside. "Nice meeting you!" He stopped for a second and continued to walk and then slammed the door. "Oh, I guess that’s so welcoming," White said and put his hands into his pockets and walked away. "She's beautiful, anyways." White looked at the house and smiled. "What is her name?" He kicked a pebble and chuckled. --- ©2020
