The men were quiet when they re-entered the house. We had heard their raised voices outside, but didn’t know exactly what had been said. I knew that my uncle and cousin were still upset over how I had been treated.
I stopped coming, preferring to stay home alone, while my parents came here to enjoy time at the lake. I wasn’t planning to come here after I graduated, but my parents insisted. It was the last time I came here, until recently. It was also the main reason I moved far enough away for it not to be just a simple trip.
