Beth It was almost three in the morning before everyone finally left, and I was alone with Raphael and Lucy. I held Lucy’s limp, sleeping body throughout all the statements and interviews, refusing to let her out of my arms for even a second. I felt like I wanted to hold her like this for the rest of her life, just to make sure I never lost her again. I never in a million years thought that my own mother would try to take my child from me. My father had attempted to explain to the police that Susan had some whack-a-doo idea that she should take my baby to make sure Lucy was raised to be a God-fearing religious nut job like her. “She’s…” my father had said as shook his head slowly and sadly. “She’s lost herself, somehow.
