John feels sick to his stomach when he realises that Pauline is gone. At first, he thought she was playing with him and will come home soon. Then, John thinks Pauline was teaching him a lesson. John will not let anyone intimidate him, and he goes out partying, whoring and drinking every night, but soon he finds it empty and dull as he comes home to an empty house. Day by day, John hoped to walk in late at night and lie next to Pauline holding her, but she was not there. Soon he stops going out, and the ladies do not interest him anymore.
