4. Sebastian's Eighteenth Birthday

~Two months later
It was now one of the hottest months of the year and it was finally Sebastian’s birthday. The guy that I wanted to make my Beta was finally eighteen, and I think I was more excited than he was.
I got up and dressed for warrior training sessions before going down to the kitchen to make my breakfast. If there was one thing that dad taught us, it was how to make our own breakfast and how to grill and smoke our food. Mom made sure we knew how to have fun with cooking and helped when we asked for it.
I made an omelet, then sat down and ate in the kitchen while my siblings came to make their own breakfasts and eat. Once we were done with breakfast, Grant, Jaxson and I went out to find dad on the training field. Dad was standing there waiting for us and got to work with me right away. We trained together for about thirty minutes before dad had me rest and turned to train with Grant, then Jaxson. I stood there and watched them along with the other pack warriors. Soon I saw Sebastian coming out to train with his dad, Ben. They walked up and I greeted them and shook their hands.
“Happy Birthday, man,” I told Sebastian.
“Thanks,” he told me with a bright smile.
“How’s your wolf enjoying being able to talk to you?” I asked.
“Cane’s enjoying himself. Almost a little too much.”
I smiled and nodded my head, knowing exactly how he felt. Ben had Sebastian follow him over close to where my dad was working with Grant. I kept watching everyone as they trained heavily this morning. Dad was soon done with Grant and started working with just Jaxson. Not long after this, I noticed Logan was coming out to train with her sister, Madison, and their dad, Rambo.
I kept my eyes on her as she walked up. She normally liked to try and sneak attack us or punch us when we weren’t looking. Today was different though. She had her gaze locked on someone on the training field. I followed her gaze to see it was on Sebastian. As I watched him, he stopped sparring with his dad and made eye contact with Logan as she walked towards us. Sebastian completely stopped what he was doing and Ben punched him right in the chest. Sebastian hit the ground, the wind knocked out of him and he gasped for air with wide eyes.
“Shit!” Ben said as he stood there looking down at poor Sebastian.
I stood there looking at my friend on the ground wondering if he was ok but I didn’t make a move. I heard Logan burst out laughing as she slowly made her way over to him. She kept laughing as she helped him to sit up and we watched them. Logan was sitting on her knees next to him while she laughed.
“Are you ok, you idiot?” she asked while she put her hand on the side of his face.
That was an odd action for Logan to touch anyone like that. Normally, she was aggressive all the time. What was going on with her?
“Yeah. I just wasn’t expecting it to be you,” Sebastian said.
“I wasn’t expecting it either, but I will say that I’m not too terribly disappointed. Though, I will fight you the whole way throughout our lives together and give you hell at every turn,” she said.
It dawned on me. Holy hell! Sebastian was Logan’s mate. Oh, the poor bastard.
“It wouldn’t be you if you didn’t, Logan,” he told her.
She stood up to walk away but Sabastian caught her and they started grappling on the ground, trying to fight for dominance. This was interesting and seemed more like something they should do in private, not on the training field. Everyone was standing there watching them. After a good session of grappling, Sebastian overpowered Logan and won. The position they ended up in was a little intimate looking.
“Looks like I have a sparring partner for life now,” he said happily.
“Um, I think you need to leave that part of the session in the bedroom, bud,” I said loudly.
They both looked up at me and Logan scrambled to get up and dust herself off. Sebastian looked a little worried as he turned from me to Rambo. He stood up and offered Rambo his hand. I watched as the soon-to-be former Beta shook the soon-to-be Beta’s hand.
“I’ll take care of her and treat her with respect for as long as she will let me,” Sebastian said.
Rambo chuckles and says, “I know you will. I taught her how to fight and handle herself, so if she needs to fix you, she will.”
Sebastian smiled his crooked grin and continued to talk with Rambo, his dad, Ben, and Logan. What an odd turn of events for today. I wonder what else fate has in store for us.
I turned to my dad and we walked back to the packhouse with Grant and Jaxson behind us. All four of us went up to the top floor to get cleaned up from sweating our asses off on the training field. When I was done in the shower and had fresh clothes on for the day, I met dad in his office. He already had a box on the table in the corner to put his personal belongings in tomorrow.
I sat down in one of the chairs while he was in his chair behind his desk on the computer. I waited for him to start asking questions so I wouldn’t interrupt his thoughts. He hated that shit but I can't blame him. It was annoying as hell to get interrupted.
When he was done, he looked up at me and sighed before saying, “I’ve got all the contracts signed and sent out for everything that the crews are building and will start. Everything that's going on has been organized in a planner and on a desk calendar that your mother makes me keep. Everything else is pretty simple. If you need help, I’ll be right next door.”
I nodded my head and asked, “There’s nothing I’ll need to do right away then?”
“No," he told me while shaking his head.
“Alright.”
“The only thing is payroll every Friday for everyone.”
“Alright, and you’ve already taught me how to do all of that between the three companies.”
“Yes, and if you need a refresher, I’ll give you one.”
“Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.”
“Are you ready to step down tomorrow?” I asked in curiosity.
“Yeah. I’m feeling older than I should and I would love to spend more time with your mom and your siblings. Hell, I would love to spend more time with you but you're about to be really busy.”
I chuckled at his statement. I knew I was about to be busy and that didn't bother me. We sat there and talked until it was time for Sebastian’s birthday party. My whole family left the packhouse to go to Ben and Emma’s house for Sebastian’s party. When we arrived, our friends were already there with their families. The party was small but we had a blast and ate pizza along with cake and ice cream. His mom put together games for us to play and a scavenger hunt for the younger pups. At some point, I started grappling with Sebastian because he challenged me. He was a good opponent but I overpowered him easily.
"Eric, I think you need to grapple someone more your own speed and size," Grant said when we were done.
"Alright, then let's go," I said, egging him on.
"Ok," Grant told me in confidence.
The two of us started grappling and tossing each other around in a friendly competition that we didn't want to end. It probably looked a lot more aggressive than we intended. Grant easily matched me with everything that I did, which was annoying as hell. How was he so strong all the damn time?
Finally, dad called an end to our session and we shook hands before we hugged. We looked at the time and realized that it was now time for Sebastian to shift and run. I watched as Ben gave him a little pep talk before stepping back so he could shift for the first time. We all stood there and watched him as he took a deep breath and relaxed, surrendering to his wolf.
I stood there watching as my best friend started to shift into his Beta wolf for the first time. He screamed in pain only once and that's when his backbone broke. That was the one bone that almost everyone screamed over because it hurt so much.
When he was fully shifted, a dark gray Beta wolf stood there watching us with his dark brown eyes. I smiled at seeing him and listened to his parents as they shifted to join him. I shifted along with them and so did Logan so she could run with her mate on his birthday. The five of us went on a meaningful run through the woods. Our next run would be tomorrow night, with the entire pack as I took over for my dad.
