Time seems to slow down and my heart keeps increasing its pace with every second it takes for me to get down from the counter.
Lucien says nothing, but his grip on the counter tightens so much that I think he might just break it.
His jaws twitch with how hard he is grinding his teeth.
And I swear his heartbeat echoes in the kitchen.
“I asked a question. What is this?” Athena urges, and I turn around to look at her.
Her hands are clenched in a fist by her side.
I expected to see her trembling with anger but all I see in her eyes are chaos and disbelief.
Even as she asks the question, I can’t get my mind to think straight enough to answer her question.
