We pulled into the parking lot of the wrong apartment building and I couldn’t help the rather strange feeling of dread build up within me. I knew that something must have gone awfully wrong in terms of Karen and my brothers budgeting, because instead of moving to her apartment as they had explained to me they were going to do, it seemed like they had done the exact opposite and continued to live here, by Lawrence instead.
I had no idea what I was supposed to do with this knowledge, or how I was supposed to feel about it, but there was this strange part of me that felt betrayed, that felt like this was yet another thing that they had lied to me about. What was it going to be next? That they had another set of twins hiding somewhere in the world? That would be the last straw for me.
