I picked up the jar of ointment off of the couch, where it had been laying for the better half of ten minutes—the amount of time that had elapsed since Aurora had left with her lapdog in tow. I was surprised that she had even given him enough time to leave the ointment behind, since her reign on his leash tended to be quite tight. I had taken Hera to the bedroom—it hadn’t been the smartest idea at the time, since my thoughts had taken a turn that they would have been better avoiding—but in order to put her somewhere where she would be both safe and comfortable, it had to be done.
