Chapter Seventy Six

1304 Words

Gerrard’s POV The world stops spinning, my sight tunnelling slightly as I stare at my wife, the woman I love, the only person I ever imagined as my co parent when I thought about the family that I desperately wanted. ‘W . . what?’ I manage to stammer confusedly. Zara’s eyes are filled with pain as she looks back at me, ‘I don’t want children’ she repeats, ‘I never have.’ ‘But . . . why?’ I ask, grappling to catch hold of a thread of understanding. My wife drops her gaze back to her hands that fidget with the covers, ‘I’m just not mother material’ she mutters. ‘That’s not true’ I utter desperately, ‘you would be a great mother! You might not see it now, after everything . . . but with time . . ‘ Zara shakes her head, still not looking at me, though when she speaks, her voice is firm.
