Assuming that Dauis at this time of the night would already be home, so, I quickly mustered all my courage to face him as it was necessary for us and headed back home.
After a few weeks of being away, there was one thing that I realized, and that is, that I didn't want to spend life away from him. And I miss him so much.
Upon arriving at the villa, my brows creased in the anticipation that no one was in there as there was no light inside. But, it’s past 10, so Dauis should be home by now.
I walked and pushed the door gently despite my excitement, but was greeted by darkness in it.
I felt dismayed at the emptiness that greeted me. Just then, when I walked inside, the strong smell of mixed alcohol and cigarettes intoxicated the whole living room, leaving me in a daze and startled when the light rushed on and found Dauis sitting there watching me in awe.
“Ale? Oh my God, Ale, it's really you. You’ve finally come back,” he said excitedly, and ran to my side and hugged me tightly.
“Where have you been? Don’t you know that we’ve been looking for you?” He said while he breathed in the nook of my neck. Inhaling me there.
“Yeah, Xander told me,” I responded. Throwing all my reservations away, I hugged him back. I missed being around him this near and being held by him this way.
But only then when he heard my response to him and he pulled himself away from me and looked at me sternly in the eyes.
“Did you just say Xander?” he asked indifferently.
“Yes…” I nodded, confused by his action. Then he turned his back on me. I watch his back as he walks away and calls out without turning his head to me.
“You go upstairs now and change your clothes. I will prepare some food so that you can eat,” he said coldly.
I was left speechless.
When I arrived, he welcomed me warmly, yet now he was treating me coldly. What could possibly be wrong with him? I thought to myself.
“You’re drunk,” I responded instead, which made him stop.
“Does it matter?” he retorted before he continued to walk to the kitchen.
Isn't he happy that I am back now? I thought he was looking for me, yet what he showed me was the opposite.
All my excitement and plans of telling him my situation had all faded away.
Maybe I will, at the right time, as we are both tired. I consoled myself.
I walked upstairs feeling so down and disheartened while I repeatedly consoled myself.
I wonder if I have said something that upsets him that he acted that way.
I entered the bathroom and immediately soaked myself in the lukewarm water in the bathtub, trying to relax my stressed mind.
While Dauis, on the other hand, felt sullen the moment he heard his wife mention Xander. He had just called Xander recently that night, yet he didn’t get to mention that he had met his wife that day. He then felt that he was being fooled.
What is it that Xander purposely hid this information from him when, in fact, he knew how he had been eagerly searching for Ale to settle the matter with her?
Yet, when she arrived, she didn't even demand a single explanation from him, which made him look less important.
Yes, he’s happy that she’s finally back, but he couldn't prevent being doubtful about Xander's recent behavior.
When he was almost done preparing their food, he realized that Ale had been gone upstairs for almost an hour now, yet she hadn’t returned yet.
So he followed her upstairs and knocked on the bathroom but no one answered. He panicked a little, thinking that she once again left him without a word, knowing that they hadn’t settled their problems yet.
He knocks again, this time louder than it had been, and calls her by her name for the second time. And when she answered from inside, he felt an incomparable relief knowing that she was still there.
He walked to the bed and sat there patiently, waiting for her to come out.
When the door finally opened, I looked up at her.
“How I missed being with this woman,” he thought to himself silently.
He just silently watched her every pace as she took one by one of her clothes from the closet.
“Sit down,” he said later, motioning her to the vanity as he take the hair blower with his hand.
She looks at him in awe, she can’t believe that he had just ordered her to sit down with a blower in his hand.
Does he plan on doing it? She asked curiously as she stared at him intently, trying to read his behavior.
When he saw that she didn’t move, he walked to her and pull her to sit down, and started blowdrying her hair by removing the towel that was previously wrapped on her long curly hair naturally, as if he has been doing this for ages.
This action stunned her.
While still in a daze at his sudden action, she asked without batting an eye, “What are you doing?” she curiously asked.
“Helping you dry your hair? Isn't it obvious?” he responded nonchalantly but with a hint of sarcasm. “You were soaking there for an hour, it’s not good for you, you might catch a cold later.” he continued.
“I forgot,” she said.
“Next time, you shouldn’t do that,” he reminded her.
She can only nod at him as she doesn't want to argue with him anymore, arguing with him with this nonsense is kind of tiring.
As much as possible, she thought that she must avoid arguing to regain their once beautiful relationship, but did they really have a relationship other than being married on paper to start with?
She highly doubts it.
But isn't it that they said that there is no harm in trying? And aside from that, the baby, she thought that they can start from there.
He continued to blow her hair dry without saying another word.
Just when she was about to tell him her situation over dinner, his phone suddenly buzzed. And she could perfectly tell that his body stiffened at the call.
As he look at it, then his eyes traveled from his phone to hers, looking a little bit hesitant about whether to take it while she was around.
Well, she could perfectly guess who's the caller based on his reaction.
“Go ahead and take it. It may be important,” she said, looking away from him to hide the jealousy she felt.
He looked at her with a disapproving look for a few seconds, but later on, heave a sigh as he decided to take the call and then said, “Okay, I'll be right back. wait for me here.” then he walked out.
The moment he was out of her sight, she started to fidget her hands and toes nervously. Nervous in a way that she is not certain about his reaction when he learns about her pregnancy and the jealousy that has been eating her since that d**n phone call.
she silently prayed that he wouldn’t accept the call and regard her even though she already urged him to take it. He at least consider her feelings but no, instead, he hurriedly took it and went out.
Maybe, she was that important to him after all.
Feeling annoyed at the woman on that call, she started to pity herself for it. How can she turn out to ask alms for attention. She, Ale Alforque shouldn't be doing this, but look at her now, And she hated herself for that.
She tilted her head and gulped down the lump that has been starting to build in her throat like tears were being stuffed in there.
Looking intently at the woman (her reflection) in the mirror who was reciprocating her every move, she smiled back at her and said, “Ale, brace yourself, this is just the beginning. It's the consequences of your action so you must stand on your round.” she affirming to herself.
she cannot fully recognize the woman in there now, as this woman has changed a lot after admitting herself that she feels in love with this guy which even complicates her life even more.
Is this what love brought us all along? Because if so, I would wish to turn back time.
Without even finishing drying her hair, She walks to bed sulkily.
She lay down facing her back in the barely closed door. She doesn't want to hear any of their conversations but his voice was a little audible given that the door was not properly closed.
She covers her ears and shut her eyes close to prevent her tears from falling. She had been shedding tears lately and in too much pain.
What She thought was a good start for them has totally faded like a thin smoke that fades in the air.
