  It was roughly a nine and a half hour drive from Pike's Peak to Bears Lake, UT. So with all those lonely miles yawning ahead of me, I decided to give Sam a call and check on him, Emily, and the kids. I hadn't spoken to them since I'd gone rogue. I figured it would be a little while before he headed into the shop, so it would be a good time to call and talk to them all at once.   When he answered, I could hear the kids giggling in the background. He seemed happy to hear from me - it was hard to tell those kinds of things with Sam sometimes - and we talked for almost an hour.
