Ten years ago, Cassandra Lionel was sent away to boarding school. A sharp-tongued teenager with too many opinions and an undeniable crush on her brother’s best friend.

Now she is back.

Confident. Sophisticated. And nothing like the girl Nathan Grant remembers.

As the heir to one of the most powerful marketing empires, Nathan’s life runs on control and precision. But when Cassandra walks back into his world, she is a temptation he can’t ignore and a mystery he wants to uncover.

But Cassandra is determined to keep her distance and her secrets.

And he can’t seem to stay away.

In a world of secrets, power, and forbidden attraction, can Nathan prove he is the man Cassandra deserves, before she slips away again?

Welcome Home Cassandra
★Cassandra★ I wasn’t surprised. Of course, Timothy had planned something big. I had known it from the moment I had heard his voice on the phone two weeks ago. He had been so eager and unable to hide that restless energy that always gave him away. He thought he was being clever as he arranged things behind my back. But I had already been back in Seabrook Bay long enough to know what was coming. Long enough to sign the lease for my condo at Coral Residences, to unpack my clothes, to breathe in the salty breeze from my balcony while my mother fumed over my rebellious decision. She wanted me at Rosehaven Hall, under her watchful eye. I wanted freedom. Eventually, she had given in and let me have it, but not without calling me ungrateful. Typical. Now here I was pretending I hadn’t seen this party coming from a mile away. Sleek cars lined the long drive, and music drifted from inside the estate. But my chest tightened. I could do this. I had to do this. I was a nervous wreck, and the reason for that had a name. Nathan Grant. It had been ten years, but his name still echoed inside me like some unfinished sentence. He was the one person I had thought about more than I ever admitted, the shadow behind so many of my daydreams and bitter nights. And I hated myself for it. I smoothed down the satin of my emerald dress, pulled my shoulders back, and walked through the open double doors. “Cassandra!” the room erupted in cheers, my name carried on voices both familiar and unfamiliar. Champagne flutes clinked, and a thousand tiny golden lights sparkled across the ceiling, bathing everything in a warm glow. Timothy was at the center of it all with a big smile directed at me. “My little sister!” he exclaimed as he pulled me into his arms. He lifted me off the ground with an ease that made me laugh. “I’m not that little anymore,” I teased, though my throat caught at the sheer happiness in his eyes. I couldn’t deny the fact that it was good to see him again. It had been almost six months since I had last seen him. “You will always be my kid sister,” he said, as he held me out at arm’s length. “Look at you. Sophisticated. Radiant. You belong on the cover of LuxeLine!” I smiled, touched more than I wanted to admit. I barely had time to take in the room with the glittering gowns, the smell of roses and expensive perfume, when I saw him. I swear my heart tripped over itself. Because as I turned, there he was. Nathan Grant. He stood near the bar, glass in hand, blue-grey eyes locked on me as though I were the only person in the room. His chestnut hair was a little shorter, brushed back neatly, and his suit fit him like it had been made just for him. Which, knowing him, it probably had. He looked sharper, older, more controlled, but still devastating. I felt heat crawl up my neck as sudden memories rushed back. The sound of his laughter. The way he used to ruffle my hair. But then I was also hit by the memory of the way I had blurted out something reckless, and he had merely laughed it off. Nathan hadn’t even realized what he had done to me that day. I forced a smile and turned back to Timothy. “Come on, then, I’m sure you are dying to introduce me to some of these people I don’t recognize,” I said to him, and my brother smiled as he offered me his arm. I let him guide me through the sea of faces. The night passed in flashes. Air kisses, compliments, and plenty of strangers remarked on how I had grown into such a stunning woman. I nodded. I smiled. I pretended like I was having the best time. I wasn’t. What I wanted was to be at home, on my couch, with a good book. Curiously, though, my brother had yet to lead me to Nathan. To the man who had followed me all night with his eyes. But when my brother hurried off to use the restroom, Nathan made his move. “Cassandra Lionel,” he said smoothly, his voice deep and familiar. “Little Cassy is all grown up,” he added, and I turned slowly. I met his eyes with deliberate calm. “Nathan,” I said softly, and he stepped closer. His presence was as overwhelming as I remembered. “You look incredible. I barely recognized you,” Nathan remarked, and I tilted my head, feigning indifference. “Ten years will do that,” I said, and I was proud of myself for not scratching his eyes out the way I wanted to. Nathan chuckled. “Fair enough. Still, I’m glad you are back. Timothy has been counting down the days. And so have I, if I’m honest,” he said, and my stomach tightened, but I kept my expression cool. “I doubt that,” “I don’t,” he countered, as he leaned slightly closer. “You have been haunting this house without even being here,” his words caught me off guard. I almost let them sink in, but no. Not this time. I smiled politely and lifted my glass. “You always did know how to flatter,” “It’s not flattery if it’s true,” he shot back, and my heart hammered, but I turned away as I took a slow sip of champagne. I wanted to let him think I was unaffected. That I didn’t care. That my heart hadn’t just skipped a beat. Thankfully, Timothy returned then. He slipped between us with a big grin. “So, what do you think of my little surprise, Cass?” he asked me. “It’s…impressive,” I said as I avoided his gaze. “You outdid yourself,” “Well, anything for my little sister,” he said. The three of us stood there, an odd triangle. Timothy, beaming with pride. Nathan, watching me with a heat he tried to mask. And me, balancing carefully on the edge of my own composure. It was excruciatingly uncomfortable, so I excused myself. I slipped out onto the terrace, and I breathed in the ocean breeze. The night air was cool against my skin, and that helped me relax. But then I heard footsteps behind me, and I didn’t have to turn around to know who it was. “Escaping already?” Nathan’s voice came softly behind me. I still didn’t turn around. “Just taking a moment,” “I suppose some things haven’t changed,” he remarked. “You always did that. You always disappeared when the room got too loud,” the familiarity in his tone made something twist in my chest. I reached out and gripped the railing. “You remember too much,” “And yet, I don’t remember this version of you, Cassy,” “I grew up,” I spat out the words, and then I sighed. “I feel like I have said that too many times tonight,” “No, I understand,” he whispered, and I shivered. “I know you came home on school breaks, Cassy. I’m sorry I missed out on seeing you…grow up,” “Right,” I said as I stepped away. “I should get back. After all, I am the guest of honor,” I didn’t wait for his response as I hurried back inside. I may have stood up against Nathan after all these years, but he still made my heart race, and my pulse quicken. ★★★
