I try so hard to maintain my composure. I’m sure Nolan wouldn’t appreciate me melting into a puddle at his feet, so I take a deep, calming breath because if I don’t, I think my heart will jump right out of my chest.
“Isn’t that actress your girlfriend? You should be taking her to the party,” I tell him and try to return the invitation. He moves back a bit and shakes his head.
“I do not wish to talk about Tara,” he says, “Our private matters are not your business.”
Taking his words as an admission that their relationship is not normal, I sigh. I’m not surprised by the response, but at the same time, it would be nice for some confirmation.
