The message burns through my phone screen before I can even blink.
“They’re coming for you tonight.” No name. Just the initial “O”. I don’t need a full name to know who it is. Orion. My jaw tightens, and a low growl escapes before I can stop it. Of course, he’d go behind my back again.
I should have known the day I accepted his offer that he would find a way of inserting himself into her life. Like a bad habit that refuses to die. I shove the phone into my pocket and stride toward the training yard, instincts snapping awake.
The night air hums with tension. Too quiet, too still. Even the guards are restless, glancing toward the woods more often than usual. Rogues aren’t supposed to hit the same territory twice in one week, but things have been changing.
