Nyx The cell smelled like damp stone and iron, the kind of place that clung to your skin no matter how many times you scrubbed. Even when Kaelen’s pack finally decided I’d “earned” an upgrade, it still wasn’t freedom. I had been moved from the dungeon beneath the mansion to this slightly less suffocating room, it was still a cage. A steel-barred door. Cold walls. The “room” they shoved me into was nothing like the dungeons below. It had a window, though the bars across it killed any thought of escape before it began. A bed pressed against the wall, thin sheets tucked tight. A small desk. A single chair. Even a lamp that buzzed faintly when they flicked it on. To anyone else, it might have seemed like an act of mercy. An omega lifted from dirt and chains into something resembling norm
