A week after the incident at The Lethal Gentleman, Enrique distanced himself from me, and Ruby once mentioned that he has been asking about Ava. I never imagined that a time would come when I’m going to hate my other character. Ava managed to capture Enrique’s heart in just a few hours whereas, I had to double my effort.
“Are you sure about this?” Ruby asked me while doing my make-up. I’ve been going out with Enrique frequently these past few days, and there were times when it’s just the two of us because Ruby couldn’t make it due to her work schedule.
“I don’t know, but I like to be with him all the time. I mean, the attention he gave me when I am Ava is different compared to when I am Tyler,” I replied to Ruby’s inquiry.
“It’s normal, Ava. You’re a man after all, and it seemed that he’s not into a man to humankind of relationship.”
“But we did it already!” Ruby gasped for breath when I accidentally mentioned the things that Enrique and I did once upon a time. “It’s just once,” I added.
“Did you force him into doing it?” Ruby asked me.
I shook my head in response because there was no force or coercion involved when it happened. “No, he came to me and told me that we must do it,” I answered.
“Then maybe, he’s just confused,” Ruby said. “I think it will be best if Ava would disappear for the time being. Tyler, you can’t keep doing this!”
“We have a scheduled date tonight; no, I can’t just cancel it at the last minute,” I told her.
“From my point of view, that’s the best solution to your dilemma, Tyler. Send Ava back to where she came from and, in the meantime, try to win his heart as Tyler. It’s more genuine that way,” Ruby explained.
“Alright, I’ll send him a message now.”
After sending the last text message from Ava, I expressed a deep sigh and smiled at Ruby. Then I asked her permission to use the bathroom. I needed to erase any trace of the cosmetics that she applied to my face.
Once done, my loyal friend has been waiting for me with a warm smile. “You can do it,” she said.
“I hope so,” was my reply.
“Are you game for a movie?”
“Sure,” I answered with glee.
For more than two hours, I stayed with Ruby in her bedroom, and together we watched a romantic comedy movie. We’ve been laughing over some chips that Ruby hoarded without her mother’s approval.
“Why don’t we ask my mother to cook something delicious?” Ruby suggested.
“Your mom is probably tired by now. What do you want to eat? Come on, I’ll cook something for both of us,” I said, and then she laughed like crazy.
“Got you! It’s been a while that I’ve tasted your cooking Ty, and I missed it!”
“Silly,” I answered, and then I slapped her arm.
“I love you,” she said, and I frowned at her immediately. Ruby has been vocal about her interest in me, but my goodness, how could I like her back when I was never interested in women!
“Darling, you have to move on now. I am a woman by heart,” I reminded her.
“I know,” she answered in a low voice, and I felt bad for her unrequited love.
“If only I am capable of loving you as a lover, I would have done it before. But girl, I am in love with my bodyguard right now.”
“Why don’t we make a deal?”
“About what?” I asked.
“Let’s get married if at the age of forty you’re still single,” she declared, and I was aghast at her announcement.
“That’s two years from now, sweetheart!” I complained.
“So what? If he really loves you, then two years is quite long,” she countered.
“I’ll have to think about it. For now, let’s go to the kitchen!”
“Let’s go!”
Together, we went to the kitchen, and we were so loud in the hallway that Enrique went out to check. My heart fluttered upon seeing him in his topless form, and his pants indicated that he was ready to leave with Ava.
“I thought you’re going out tonight. Why are you still here?” I asked him, and then Enrique clenched his jaw before he opened his mouth to speak.
“Do you know that Ava returned to the States already?” He asked me, and I tried to avert my gaze.
However, Ruby pinched my arm, and I had to fake a smile to Enrique so that he wouldn’t notice my discomfort when he inquired about Ava. “Actually, we don’t mind each other’s business. Are you sad that she’s gone?” Enrique didn’t respond and returned to his room without saying anything. It was worse than being rejected directly.
“Just don’t mind it,” Ruby said.
“It hurts,” I started, but after a few seconds of staring at his door, I managed to lift my foot and walked again. “So, what do you want to eat?”
“I missed your fried chicken, Tyler, but I’ve changed my mind. How about ice cream?”
“And bread?” When Ruby nodded, I made a face because it’s unhealthy to have ice cream and bread after eight in the evening.
Ruby took a double dutch ice cream tub from the fridge, and I prepared the toasted bread. A few minutes later, we were both serious about eating our late-night snacks, but all of a sudden, I became teary-eyed.
“What’s wrong?” She asked.
‘If only I knew that he would be smitten with Ava,” I said with so much regret in my voice.
“It’s no use to cry over spilled milk, Tyler. So what is your plan now? Are you going to seduce him into sleeping with you?”
“I don’t know much about what you’re talking about. You know me, Ruby. I’m not a promiscuous type of boy. How about you?”
“Me? I will remain as a virgin for another two years,” she announced, and her response didn’t shock me at all.
“You’re going to miss half of your life if you keep on waiting for me to have s*x with you,” I reminded her.
“How about doing it right now?”
