After Dr. Pierce left, Marcus had vanished too, leaving just Adrian and me. Later in the day, Adrian's voice woke me from my sleep, disrupting the quiet of the house. “Lily, downstairs,” he called from the hall. “Now.” I slipped on the silk black robe he’d left on the chair, my legs shaky as I descended. I stepped inside the foyer and froze. A long table was set for two with soft music drifting from hidden speakers. Adrian stood by the head of the table, dressed in a crisp black shirt and slacks, his gray eyes softer than I’d ever seen them. “What’s this?” I asked softly. “Dinner,” he said, pulling out a chair. “Sit.” I hesitated, then obeyed, the robe barely covering me. He disappeared into the kitchen and returned with a tray— steak, salad and a bottle of red wine. My stomach growle
