Rachel's knock on my door woke me up the following morning, her voice bright.
“Andrea! We’re heading to my mom’s for a playdate. The kids are so excited.”
I sat up, looking around the room and smoothing my hair, before I moved to open the door and forced a smile.
“Sounds fun. Need me to do anything?”
“No, you settle in,” she said, her smile warm. “You’ve got the day to unpack, make the room yours. We’ll be back tonight.”
“Thanks,” I said, her trust stabbing me. “Have a great time.”
