Testin The Hearts

I didn’t want to be here. But I needed to know. I sat at a new bar, heels dangling, my dress black, short and tight. My fingers curled around the stem of my wine glass, my thoughts on Jace’s gray eyes, the way he had said, 'Don’t fall in love with me.' I shoved the thought away. There was absolutely no way I was in love with Jace. A man slid onto the stool beside me. Broad shoulders, good looking, a collared shirt open at the throat. His cologne was expensive and masculine. “Mind if I join you?” he asked, voice low. I sipped my wine slowly, then looked him over. “Only if you buy me another.” He signaled the bartender. “Two Champagnes, please.” He turned back. “I’m Harvey.” “Camille.” I offered a small smile. He lifted his glass. “To new friends.” I clinked. “And future mistakes.”
