Chapter 11: Doubt and Double

2068 Words
Nighttime comes so fast and I am now on my way to the North Light City Garden Hotel. It was about half an hour a drive from my residence. It was located amidst the tall standing skyscrapers of Manhattan, the Heart of the City. This was probably a good thing for someone who plans to go over the Forbes Casino, where the said auction will be held. After the incident from last time, the organizers chose a rather populated highly guarded place to continue what has been postponed in the light of unfortunate bombing. If I were to calculate the estimated time to travel from here to there, it would just probably take me less than fifteen minutes without tolls. I slipped the royal blue invitation card to the man guarding the entrance; elegantly entered the golden elevator; and pressed the top most floor of this hotel. That Mara kid really loves to show off their family’s billions by throwing the most expensive birthday party ever. I heard she rented the entire 110th floor of this spacious worldwide recognized five-star hotel of the city to accommodate her guests who would want to stay the night. Probably couples and hook up mates who couldn’t wait to go home and explore each others sexuality. Atop the rented floor was a dazzling rooftop centre with many interactive arts particularly metallic large apple shape and lit night lanterns. The hotel seems to be living out the city’s other name. ‘The City of Big Apple' and ‘The City that never sleeps.’ You might be wondering why I know this much. Not only that I am a business personality myself but more so because my parents urge me to learn and study different businesses thriving in the city as I am not inclined in attending business parties as future heir should be to familiarize allies and competitors. And I wasn’t wrong about my knowledge on this hotel’s rooftop… The blinding light coming from the standing proud apple in the middle of the giant pool as well as the mediocre sized lanterns scattered around the place, was quite the evidence of my expectations. My eyes took a moment to adjust as I ascended the stairs leading to the main venue. The elevator booth could only reached the last floor before the rooftop, thus I had to walk from there. Swarm bodies of people in their best pool party outfits were already gathered around. Most of the guests were young adult as the birthday celebrant herself will be turning into one. Some were enjoying themselves on the tables filled with branded drinks while most of the visitors already jump into the crystal clear giant pool which actually occupies one half the rooftop’s parameter. “Hey!” An unfamiliar woman’s voice snaps me from admiring the place too much. I look from my side and saw an approaching lady in fiery red two piece, caring less with the hungry looks she gets from the guys. She walks confidently at me wearing a bright smile. “Hey?” I greeted back. I was more like…’do I know you' or ‘have we met before.’ Because she’s making it look like she knows me. “You must be Calix’s secretary right?” She asked still smiling. “Yes it happens to be me. Who are you?” I asked back. “Oh! How rude of me…I’m Kamilla Scott by the way.” She introduced herself before offering a hand for a shake which I gladly take saying, “Bliss.” As we were walking towards their table where two men are seated, I ask her. “How do you I’m his secretary?” It’s only right for me to know. She seems so confident in identifying me earlier. “Well actually he told us to look for someone with an Asian nose…” If I were eating something, I would definitely choke. But my reaction would be too early without hearing Kamilla's following phrase. “…and someone with a conservative get up.” Kamilla is silently apologizing for her dead serious honesty. It would definitely sound a compliment if not for the context. How dare him? Did he really thinks I will come to a pool party wrap in my comfort? Once we arrived at the table, the two topless gentlemen clad only on their summer pants threw us a wave. “Kam mind introducing us to your friend.” The man in dominant yellow summer shorts requested. Well, he doesn’t actually need Kamilla's help. “Hey I’m Bliss, Calix’s secretary.” I joyfully greeted. “Spencer.” The man in yellow pants replied followed by the other fella. “Michelle” I both took their hand and slightly shakes it, marking our acquaintanceship. Kamilla and I flute our own glass of champagne off from a passing waitress holding trays of pale yellow-orange liquid. The taste of French flavorsome delicacy that suits everyone’s style burns in my throat. I was savoring my drink while watching the guys play on the pool. I can’t still seem to forget how badly Calix thinks about my fashion taste. When will he be coming by the way? I slightly raise my body from slumbering and removes my white decent robe, revealing my skimpy aqua blue two piece with extra laces and few cuts. Maybe the protective robe was the reason why Kam was able to identify me as ‘conservative’ earlier. Spencer and Michelle looks at awe with my flaunted figure. Some guys from our tables also couldn’t help but to stare. Gosh! I’m not used to this. Okay I admit Calix was right about my thing of being a ‘conservative' but that doesn’t stop me from going with the trends. I look on my phone to check the time. Crap! It’s been thirty minutes now since I arrived here but not a single strand of Calix hair was to be found. Alexis was so worried about my whereabouts as evident with the surge of messages I received from him. One of his message was like this… ‘It’s starting and I’m alone darling. Bet the Laghberg is checking for your attendance. Come on!” My cousin was badly rattled I suppose. I need to get out of here immediately. “Oh excuse me I’ll go use the bathroom.” They nod in agreement as I hastily enters the small door leading downstairs where the CR as well as well as the exit of this rooftop were located. Ugh! I cursed myself for leaving my decent robe behind as some men are gruesomely eyeing me. If it was Calix then it would be an honor. But if it would be some random guys around no matter how hunk looking they will be, I wouldn’t give a damn s**t! “Sorry…” I humbly said even if I need not to as I bump to a random girl making out with some guy. Tell me about it. Should I suppose to be sorry at all if they were the ones blocking the way? They should go to the 110th floor…at least by that, the rented room serves a purpose. Finally as I continue walking through the hallways, I got rid with burning couples indulging in each other’s mouth. What more? I finally saw a turning point. The elevator booth awaits after. But I was automatically stop on my heel when I heard a familiar voice coming from the corner where I am suppose to enter. It was Devon… “Don’t worry bro I already let Kamilla set an eye on your secretary?” Devon said to the person on the other side of the line. I was like…why would Mr. Dexigrous keeps an eye on me? Is he making sure I should keep up with my pre-arranged working schedule for tonight? Or is he doubting something about me? Either way I should better head back to the throng of people not to be get caught by the older Dexigrous once he hangs the call. I runs back to the hallway filled with intimate couples to hide myself if ever Devon continues his way to the party. I proceeded in an empty cubicle and immediately dials my personal assistant’s number. She’s been with this plan in the beginning and I would love her to partake more. “Hey Lyra want to be Alexis’s escort...” I discuss the things with her briefly and hangs up the call. Luckily, she was all into it as much as I want her to. She’ll be acting as my double. As in substitute…It wouldn’t be too hard because the event requires mask and Lyra was as slender as I am, only that I am a bit taller. But with the power of stiletto, it would be as easy as slicing cake. It would be a good time for her to spend the evening with her crush. As for me, it will be an essential thing to cover up any doubts or questions Calix might have about me. I quickly open my purse and fish for the car key. I press the button to unlock the doors of my car. Lyra’s apartment was just a walking from North Light Hotel. She will get the bloody red gown on my backseat, leather black stilettos, and lacey masks. I also called my cousin for the plan. Not to cause further suspicion, I hastily get out of the cubicle and steps outside. As I stride my first step to the stairs leading back to the party, I felt a hand wrap around my waist. “Goodness! I never thought you’d be this hot.” It was the man I eavesdropped earlier. A raise my eye brow. “Hands off.” I said as I eyed his insolent hands. “Feisty! I like that.” He was smirking like a douche. Though he is undeniably striking hot with his black shoulder length hair and sexy grin he wears. Nevertheless, he wasn’t my type. It’s he’s brother that I like. “H-A-N-D-S O-F-F” I asserted a force of rejection in every letter. He chuckles for a while as he loosen his grip. “I wouldn’t even tempt my brother’s mistress.” He shrugs his shoulder and leaves me on my own. Mistress? How did I became a mistress? I’m just taking back what I originally own. Devon is sick! Amidst my pondering moment, another Dexigrous came. “Hey! I didn’t invited you. How come you’re here?” Mara asked with no consideration of how offensive she sounds. “Your brother invited me.” I replied. FYI I didn’t intend to come in here too for I have a prior schedule to attend firsthand. She slightly flinches. “Don’t dare seducing my brother?” She fiercely said before dashing to the CR where some guest greeted her. My bad. I didn’t even threw her a ‘happy birthday greeting’. Wait. What did she just say? Seduce? Seduce which brother specifically? Nah child it’s not my style…but maybe I should consider that too now that you suggested. I returned to the party but I couldn’t spot Kamilla and the troops. Why would I even have to rely on them for company when it’s obvious that they are just joining me as per Calix’s order. I approach a mini drink counter near a lit lantern and comfortably indulge myself with drinks. We rarely got chance to enjoy free wine from Dexigrous cellar. “Margarita please.” I ordered the bar tender. Some guy attempted to hit on me but soon gives up as I ignored them. I’m here for free drinks and not for free men. Just then I know it, I was rocking the dancefloor with random guys. It must have been the drinks that sets me into party spree. I was still hoping Calix would come around. But my hopes starts to fades, as there are still no sign of Mr. Hot yummy sexy workaholic Dexigrous around the place when in fact it was now midnight. ‘He isn’t coming.’ I silently scold myself. I should better be on my way home already. I lifted my body from a slumber position and starts to walk towards the stairs but my vision seems to be moving. My legs are shaking a bit. Ugh! I thought I had lost my balance but why I didn’t feel anything something like cold floor or maybe warm water hitting my body. Instead, I felt like floating in the air as if someone has me in his arms. “I got her”, that was the last thing I heard before my eyes shut in restlessness.
