one night stand

Ofelia’s POV It has been three days and that was all it took for my life to turn into a complete nightmare. I hadn’t eaten anything solid since the day Ethan left. Sleep came in short, broken pieces filled with dreams of empty closets and ringing phones. Every time my phone buzzed, it was another debt collector. Turns out Ethan didn’t just empty our joint account. He took out loans in my name—big ones. Credit cards I never knew about. Personal loans I never signed for. Or at least, I didn’t remember signing. My head still spun every time I thought about it. “Miss Bennett, this is the third notice…”
“Legal action will be taken…”
“We’re coming for your wages…” I stopped answering after the second day. I just lay on the couch in the half-empty apartment, staring at the ceiling, wondering how I was going to survive. The landlord had already slipped a warning note under the door. Rent was overdue. Again. A loud knock made me jump. “Ofelia! Open this door right now or I’m using my spare key!” Mia’s voice came through loud and clear. I groaned and dragged myself up. My best friend since college burst in like a storm, her curly hair bouncing and her eyes full of fire. “Look at you,” she said, hands on her hips. “You smell like heartbreak and takeout containers. This ends tonight.” “Mia, I’m not in the mood—” “Too bad. You’re coming with me. There’s this exclusive club downtown—Velvet Eclipse. My cousin got us on the list. You need to get out of this apartment before you rot in it.” I shook my head. “A club? With everything going on? No way. I just want to stay here and—” “And what? Cry until your eyes fall out?” She grabbed my arm and pulled me toward the bedroom. “One night. Shower, put on something cute, and let’s go. You deserve one damn night where you’re not thinking about that trash ex of yours.” I tried to argue, but Mia was impossible when she got like this. An hour later I found myself squeezed into a short black dress I hadn’t worn in years, my hair loose around my shoulders, and my makeup hiding the dark circles under my eyes. The Uber ride felt too loud, too bright. I kept thinking about the loans, the empty bank account, the way Ethan just disappeared. “I hate this already,” I muttered as we walked past the long line outside the club. The bouncer checked the list and let us in without a word. Inside, Velvet Eclipse was dark and pulsing. Red and purple lights swept across bodies on the dance floor. Music thumped deep in my chest. Expensive drinks. Beautiful people laughing like they didn’t have a care in the world. I wanted to leave immediately. Mia dragged me to the bar and ordered shots. “Drink. Then dance. Then forget that loser exists for a few hours.” I took the shot, the burn sliding down my throat. My eyes wandered while Mia chatted with some guy who bought us drinks. That’s when I saw him. In a private section raised above the main floor, sitting alone like he owned the place. Tall. Broad shoulders that filled out his black button-up shirt perfectly. Dark hair, sharp jawline, and eyes that seemed to cut through the crowd. Everything about him screamed power—intimidating, expensive, dangerous. He was dressed entirely in black, from his shirt to his slacks. A silver watch caught the light on his wrist. Our eyes met. A strange shiver ran down my spine. I looked away quickly, but a few minutes later I felt it again. His gaze was on me, heavy and intense. Every time I glanced up, he was watching. Not smiling. Just… looking. Like he could see straight through my fake smile and borrowed dress. Mia noticed. “Girl, that man is staring at you like you’re dinner. Go say hi!” “No. Absolutely not. I’m not ready for—” Too late. He was already moving. He walked down the steps from the VIP area like he had all the time in the world. The crowd seemed to part for him without him even trying. He stopped right in front of me, close enough that I caught the clean, masculine scent of his cologne. “Damien,” he said simply, voice low and smooth, like dark velvet. “Ofelia,” I replied, my voice barely above the music. He tilted his head toward a quieter corner booth. “You look like you need to talk. Or at least sit down before you fall over.” I don’t know why I followed him. Maybe it was the way he looked at me—like I wasn’t broken. Maybe I was just tired of feeling alone. We sat, and somehow the words started pouring out. I told him everything. Ethan leaving. The money gone. The loans in my name. The debt collectors. The way my whole life had collapsed in three days. He listened. Really listened. No interruptions. No pity. Just those intense eyes on mine and the occasional nod. When I mentioned how stupid I felt for ignoring the red flags, a small smile tugged at his lips. “You’re not stupid,” he said quietly. “You trusted someone who didn’t deserve it. That’s on him. Not you.” For the first time in days, I laughed. A real laugh that surprised even me. Damien’s eyes softened just a fraction, and something electric passed between us. Chemistry. Thick, undeniable chemistry. His hand brushed mine on the table, and heat shot up my arm. We talked for hours—or at least it felt like it. The music faded into background noise. Mia texted me once to check in, but I barely noticed. Damien didn’t push. He didn’t try cheap lines. He just… was there. Strong. Calm. Like a rock in the middle of my storm. When the club started to thin out, he leaned closer. “Spend the night with me, Ofelia, let me help you forget.” My heart raced. I should have said no. But in that moment, all I wanted was to feel something other than pain. I nodded. The ride to his hotel was a blur. His hand rested on my thigh the whole way, warm and possessive. The second the door to his penthouse closed, he pulled me against him. Our kiss was fire, Hungry and Desperate. His hands slid down my body, gripping my waist as he lifted me like I weighed nothing. I wrapped my legs around him, fingers tangling in his dark hair. Clothes came off in a rush—my dress pooled on the floor, his black shirt unbuttoned and tossed aside. He was perfect. Hard muscle, tattoos I wanted to trace with my tongue, and a hunger that matched my own. Damien carried me to the bedroom, his mouth never leaving my skin. He laid me on the massive bed and worshipped every inch of me with slow, deliberate touches and hot kisses. When he finally pushed inside me, I gasped his name, nails digging into his back. It wasn’t just s*x. It was raw passion. Deep thrusts that made me see stars. His low growls in my ear. The way he held my gaze like he was claiming me. I came hard, shaking, and he followed soon after, burying himself deep with a groan that sent fresh waves through me. We did it again. And again. Slower the second time, exploring each other like we had all night. His hands were everywhere—gentle and rough at the same time. I felt alive for the first time since Ethan left. Heck I have never felt this alive with Ethan. s*x email th Ethan is what I call boring. No setting the mood, no foreplay but I was too in love with him to complain. I fell asleep in his arms, exhausted and satisfied, the scent of him all over me. Morning light filtered through the huge windows. I woke up slowly, stretching against soft sheets that smelled like him. But the bed was empty. “Damien?” I called softly. No answer. I sat up, pulling the sheet around me. His clothes were gone. The penthouse was silent. On the nightstand was a single black business card. Damien Voss
Voss Enterprises No phone number. No personal email. Just the company name and a sleek logo. Did he expect me to call him? I ran my thumb over the thick card, my chest tightening. One perfect night. That was all it was. He was gone, and my problems were still waiting for me back home. But for a few hours, I had forgotten them. And somehow, that made the fall back to reality hurt even more.
