I knew that Laila was nervous about the trip that we were about to have but we couldn’t cancel or postpone it. My mother already knew about Laila’s existence and delaying their meeting was only going to make the meeting awkward and uncomfortable for her.
My fear was that if I delayed it she would get cold feet and change her mind about going with me. My fear was that she would overthink meeting my parents and realize that it was too much pressure for her. The funny thing was that we had spoken about my mom being difficult so much to the extent that we forgot to mention that my father was the only one who could calm her.
