Of course, my mother had tried to take advantage of the situation and manipulate things to go her way. Unfortunately, she figured Laila would be easier to convince that we were not meant to be together because she was already convinced that she and I shared the same father. It seemed that my mother already knew about Laila’s suspicions and I wondered how she had known this.
