Caleb - I need my angel.
I first noticed I could hear some voices around me. It was still dark, but soon I could see a picture. That was my angel. She sat next to me. I could feel her warmth. Her healing hand touched my chest, and she caressed my face. Her touch made me at ease. It was as if I were in heaven. She looked tired, but still smiled at me beautifully and said, “You are safe, Alpha.”
I opened my eyes, and I realised I was in the same room. I was in pain. I tried to sit up, but the pain was too sharp. I whimpered. I could hear someone moving in the room, and soon I could see Jason next to me. I could see he was worried.
"Caleb, are you okay?"
"Yes, can’t you see how much?"
He laughed. "I knew that you wouldn't give up that easily."
I grinned, but my grin instantly disappeared when I had another thought. Noah. I tried to call him, but he didn't answer me—only emptiness and quiet.
Jason looked at me, worried again.
"Caleb, what's wrong?"
I looked at him, and I think he could see I was worried.
"I lost Noah. He doesn't answer me."
I could see him getting angry.
"Healer."
He shouted, and that was the moment when I looked in the same direction as him, to see my angel standing there, worriedly with her head lowered. I couldn't believe that she was real. I felt the sparkle immediately.
"Yes, Beta."
Her voice was quiet and soft, but angelic.
"What did you do to his wolf?"
I frowned. I liked Jason, but I didn't like the tone he used when talking to her. She stepped closer with her head lowered in embarrassment, and I could see she was lost in thought for a moment.
"His wolf got beaten up badly. They need time to heal, and wolves can heal themselves best when they are asleep. He will appear when he is ready."
The sister next to her lifted her head with a sudden movement, looking at her in disbelief. I could see that angering Jason.
"Healer, I told you the consequences. If you are lying..."
"I'm telling the truth, Beta." She tried to reassure my angry Beta, but it seemed like, for Jason, she wasn't convincing enough.
"I don't mind getting your neck again, but this time I might break it if you are lying to me."
I could see she started trembling, and for a reason that hurt me. I was frightened too when, after this sentence, Jason took the first step toward her.
"Jason, stop."
I shouted, using my Alpha tone. I could see both the angelic female and the sister jumping when they heard my voice. Jason just turned around and looked at me in disbelief.
"That's enough. That healer has already helped me a lot. I do believe her as she has no reason to lie."
I could see that Jason didn't want to let it go, but as my Beta, he needed to follow my order without hesitation.
"Yes, Alpha."
He said, clearly disappointed.
"You two can leave now."
He ordered them, and what I wished was that Jason and his sister leave so that I could stay alone with that healer, but I told myself I'd have plenty of time to meet her. They both bowed to Jason and me, then they left.
"Caleb, I'm sorry for what I said earlier, but I don't trust them."
"Why? They got me back; I feel that I'll be fine. They are healers. What makes you not trust them?"
"I don't know Caleb. I don't believe in that healer. She asked me to live while she treated you, and now Noah is gone. It's just all weird for me."
"Jason, calm down. They have no reason to lie. I'm okay. And Noah indeed got bitten badly. I don't want you to hurt her."
He looked at me in confusion, but as he couldn't go against my order, he nodded.
"I have to arrange to take you back to the castle." He added.
"No rush." The tone I used may have revealed I wasn't just satisfied with the treatment I got here.
He looked at me in confusion, which made me smile.
"I'm still in pain," I stated.
"They can move you gently, and we can take care of you from now on."
I just took a deep breath. I'll still have a few days till Jason arranges that. And I can meet her again.
The two days passed, and I was utterly disappointed when I saw different healers coming in and taking care of me. I wanted to see her. If I asked for her, they would have brought her to me, but I didn't want them to talk about us, and also, I didn't even know her name.
The day Jason came to help me up came too soon. I felt okay. I was still in pain, but I could endure it. I was eager to see her again, but she didn't appear. I knew that was stupid, as she is a wolfless healer. I wanted to thank her at least, but I also didn't want to anger Jason.
When the time came, only the familiar sister came in to give instructions to my gammas on how to change my bandage and other similar tasks. I still had the hope of seeing her again, unless we were in the carriage, to take us back to the castle. I couldn't swallow it, and I didn't care what Jason thought.
"Sister?"
She didn't lift her head.
"Yes, Alpha."
"What's the name of the healer who saved me?"
I could see Jason didn't like my question, but I had to know that at least.
"Aurora, Alpha."
"Aurora," I repeated.
"Please, express my gratitude for her. I want to return her kindness. Please also let her know that if she ever needs anything, she can find me with her request."
"Thank you, Alpha. I'll give your message to her."
I nodded. I didn’t know what that feeling was inside me. Leaving this place made me give up hope of seeing her again, and that just felt like I was suffocating.
