THE FOREST was quiet when Elvira stepped into the clearing, her white cloak trailing like moonlight behind her. She found the small wooden cabin tucked under the shade of the towering pines, beside the lake. It was a place no one should have been able to find.
Elvira smiled and walked towards the cabin.
The door creaked open before she could knock.
“Elvira.”
Elena stood there with her hair loose and dark as ink. Time hadn’t touched her face. She was still as ethereal and coldly beautiful as she had been centuries ago.
“Elena.” Elvira smiled at her sister. “How are you?”
Elena’s eyes narrowed. “What are you doing here?” she asked in a lazy tone. She had already expected her sister to come.
“I came to visit you, of course.” Elvira stepped inside uninvited, looking around the dimly
