I say goodbye to Jasper and Ophelia from the door before I climb in the back seat of the SUV. River gets in and closes the door. He reaches over and takes my hand and holds it gently between his hands.
He tells his Beta to take us home. I’m not sure what to expect when I arrive but we ride for about 4 hours. I fall asleep sometime during the drive and I wake up slumped in Rivers lap. I sit up and apologize.
“Why are you apologizing?” River askes with a laugh.
“I don’t know. Maybe you didn’t want me on you and I just ended up on you.” I say shyly.
