The man in black let go of the goons, and one after another, they sauntered out. The last one even shut the door behind him.
Emily was drenched in cold sweat from the pain, everything in front of her was turning blurry. In the background, the disgusting voices of those guys kept coming.
"That Mitchell girl just now? Damn, she's a real piece of work. Big and soft—felt incredible, man."
"Just watching her twist around had me hard already. Now I need somewhere to let it all out."
"You guys are lucky! She was William's plaything. I wanna see what's so special about her."
One of them grabbed Emily by the hair and started dragging her toward a cleaner spot on the floor.
Her scalp throbbed with pain, but her body had no strength left to fight back.
As she stared into the abyss, knowing what was about to happen, a bitter smile curved on her lips. In the dim, eerie warehouse, it was spine-chilling.
"Wait—stop! Don't drag her anymore!"
A dark red streak traced behind her on the floor—it was horrifying.
"The b-baby..." she murmured, barely audible.
The men glanced at each other.
"s**t, this is bad luck."
"Whatever, let's just bail. This Mitchell chick is ruthless—didn't even care she's pregnant."
"Are we really leaving her like this? What if she dies?"
"What, wanna play daddy now? If she dies, that's her problem. Messed with the wrong people. We didn't lay a finger on her—they got nothing on us."
In just a minute, Emily was left alone in the factory. Clenching her teeth, she crawled toward her phone.
She had just grabbed it when it suddenly started ringing.
Vision dimming, she picked it up.
"Help… help me… please help my baby…"
No reply came. Then, everything went black.
———
When she came to, everything around her was white, and the strong smell of disinfectant filled her nose.
"Emily, are you okay?"
A man's panicked voice sounded by her ear.
Recognizing that familiar voice, she managed a weak smile. "Ben… why are you back from overseas?"
"If I didn't come back, I might never have seen you again!" Benjamin Blackwood looked at her, heart twisting at how broken she was.
"You make it sound so dramatic."
"Emily, don't joke around. If I hadn't gotten there in time, you—"
"The baby… it's gone, isn't it?" she murmured, eyes dropping.
Benjamin gently touched her hair. "You're still young. There's always next time."
"There won't be a next time." Tears trickled down her cheeks.
Even if there is, it won't be the same life. And more than that—
"I'm getting a divorce." Her voice was firm.
Benjamin reached out to wipe away her tears, bitterness flickering in his eyes. "Don't say that, Emily. I've known you since we were kids. You think I don't see how long you've been secretly in love with William?"
"Why do even you know?" Her eyes were filled with confusion.
He lowered his head, locking eyes with her tear-stained ones. "Because your eyes never lied. Every time he showed up at a party, you couldn't look away."
Emily gave a pained smile, tears running into her mouth.
She always thought loving William was her secret. A feeling she kept buried, close to her heart.
But in the end, she was just lying to herself.
Everyone saw how much she cared—everyone but him.
Because whenever he looked at her, there was only hate in his eyes.
She choked out to Benjamin, "But loving him… it's just too painful."
"Ben, I can't do it anymore. I kept running into walls… and now, it just hurts too much. I think it's time I stopped."
