Chapter 36 k********g

618 Words

For two straight days, William had mobilized every resource he had in City L—besides the police—but still, there was no sign of Lucas. Back at the Carter residence, Emily was a mess of nerves, pacing and restless. "Still nothing?" William shook his head, eyes bloodshot, stubble dusting his jaw. His shirt hung loose, collar undone, like he hadn't cared to fix it. "I'm going with you to look!" Emily, her eyes rimmed red from sleepless nights, clutched his arm tightly. "Emily, just rest for a bit, okay? I swear, the second I hear anything, I'll let you know." "I can't sleep, okay? Every time I close my eyes, I see Lucas crying, begging me to save him. William, I'm terrified... he's everything to me, I can't lose him!" Tears streamed down her cheeks, big and heavy.
