The aliens were content, the first day, to confine their investigations to street-level sites, which gave Michi the freedom to prowl the upper floors and roofs. She had to be careful about sneaking up behind these creatures, continually reminding herself that they had two sets of eyes and, therefore, a much wider field of vision. She did manage to kill two of them by dropping pieces of masonry on them, thereby making it look like an accident each time; she had no illusions that she could fool the alien commander about her presence here for very long, but every bit of misdirection was a help.
