"OKAY. You two women on the sides, I know that you have a relative here but that does not concern me for you to accept you here. I don't like pretty faces that have attitude and sitting pretty only business here so, it's a no for you two. Except you, you man in the middle. You're hired. Now, get out of here," Toni said without filter, and she told the three applicants to leave the room with her hand signal only and without giving them a second glance. "Please, follow me," the secretary woman told Zion, and the three applicants went out. Then, the secretary pointed out to Zion where he will go next so, he followed her and entered another room where all the applicants passed in the interview. While the two women who were not accepted are crying to their relatives, and the others went home because they have nothing to do since the decision have been made. "Dad, do something," a woman said to her father. "Stop crying, my princess. Don't worry, Daddy, will talk to the President to give you another chance. Wait here," the old man said who looks rich that has a position in the company, and he entered the auditorium to face the CEO. "Good morning, Ms. Wayman, sorry to interrupt you, but this girl is my daughter and I would be happy if you accept her here," he mentioned politely, pointing his daughter who is standing at his right side. "Mr. Ray, I know she is your daughter but, based on her academics and experience, she doesn't fit here. Maybe in the restaurant that you manage. She can work there as a Manager but, here? I don't think so," Toni directly answered without blinking to let him know that she is the boss and no one else. "But, I am one of the investors here," the old man added that he used his power to make her daughter enter the company. "Yeah, you are. Now if you force your daughter to enter here, you will be the one to resign. But, I do not promise that her work here will be easy because what I need here are people who are best, and that includes you. The question is, is your daughter good or just a pretty lady? Your choice, Mr. Ray. You, or your daughter?" she authoritatively indicated and did not give Mr. Ray a chance to stand against her. The old man looked at his daughter and seemed like they were talking by the use of their eyes. "Make up your mind now, or I will fire you too. Think fast, and I have a lot of work to do. You are actually wasting my time. 5. 4. 3. 2–" Toni said giving them an ultimatum but, before her counting finished, he speak. "I'm sorry, Ms. Wayman, for wasting your time but, I think I am more suitable for this company than my daughter," Mr. Ray honestly replied, and he lowered his head towards her as if he is asking for apologies. "But, Dad!" the woman shouted who is not convinced because she did not get what she wanted. "Good choice. Now get back to work," Toni announced, dismissing the two and going back to her work. Meanwhile, Mr. Ray pulled his daughter outside the room. "Stop it, Sasha. I almost lost my job because of you. Listen, I am working here very hard, and I do not want to break my image just because of you. You know, she's right. You are all just pretty faces. Now you go home, and later we will talk. I will go back to my work now, and she might throw fire on me," Mr. Ray commented at his daughter, and he left her because he was suddenly afraid of his position in the company and to his boss. Sasha anyways cried more, and left the building with stomping feet. However, Zion is very happy because he got in even though he lacked in academic requirements. "She is such a good boss because she let me in without looking at my educational attainment. This is the beginning of my success," he happily murmured under his throat that he already imagined himself growing in the company. . . . "Yes to you, and no to you. Next!" "No to the three of you. Next!" "No, and no. How many do we still have?" "You three, out. It's a no for me." "You've got to be kidding me. Nope." "Yes to you, and you. Now, out." "Okay, we're done." After the interview, Toni left the room, and went to the other room where the applicants she accepted were, including Zion who was sitting in the middle. She then stood in front of them all confidently, and she gave them a serious look one by one. "To all of you, welcome to Tri-Way Company. I will not stay long so, listen very carefully to what I have to say because if you don't, consider yourself fired. I don't like repeating myself so, whoever asks what to do or anything to others, please find the exit immediately. I don't need someone like you here in my company. However, the contract that my secretary gave you is the job description that you have to obey, or you will be terminated. One mistake and you're done here. Is that clear? And one more thing, if you have any questions regarding the contract you can ask my secretary, and she will explain it to you. You only have 2 hours to read your contract, you can take pictures of it but, you cannot post it in public or you will pay a fine for confidentiality. And the fine? You will only pay 500,000 dollars that is," she reminded them all. Everyone in the room got surprised when they heard the price. They immediately got scared of her, and became serious. "My only rule here is...everything you see and know here, MUST stay here. Or, we will see you in court. Alright? I am paying you for the work and not to gossip or play around here, got it? Plus, if you see anything that you think is wrong, report it immediately to HR, and they will be the ones to fix it. I don't tolerate tardiness and misconduct here so, I hope that's clear to everyone. And just like I said a while ago, you only have two hours to read the contract. It's whether you sign it or not, it's your choice. I don't care. I don't force people to stay here. After two hours, my secretary will tour you around so, tomorrow you will start working. Got me? Do you have any questions?" she added more to let them know that she controls her company and no one else. Everyone nodded their heads as they all agreed with her, except for the man who is not-so-old looking and raised his right hand. Toni's one eyebrow rose at his gesture which made everyone turned their eyes, diverted to the old man. "Question. How much is the starting salary?" the old man questioned with a smile. "Read the contract, and you'll know. Now, I have to go and I have so much to do. Welcome aboard here," she replied coldly, and she walked out of the room. "She's scary," Zion whispered inside his head when he stared at her while she was talking. . . . Zion went home, and told his sister the good news that happened to him and because of that, he bought half piece of meat and they grilled it together with rice, like it was a celebration. ——— THE next day, Zion came in and left his sister at the daycare center so, she could learn to socialize with other people. His day then started at work, at first he was smiling while working but, when he started lifting the heavy things needed for building project they are doing, he became serious as he sweats. He and the rest of his colleagues only rested at lunchtime, but after that, they resume to work. On the other hand, Toni stopped by to see the progress of the project she is trying to build, and she nodded as she was satisfied to their work. Until the sun went down and all the employees left, except for Toni who was still inside her office and busy with papers. She is quietly working alone when suddenly her phone rang which was just on the side of the table. She sighed when she saw that it was her mother calling. She answers it anyways. "Toni, where are you? Haven't you seen my messages? You missed your blind dates!" her mother preached, stressfully. Toni closed her eyes in response, and held on to her forehead as she is trying to calm, and not give in to her. "Mom, I told you I am not interested. How many times do I have to tell you that I don't have time for those blind dates?" she contradicted in a calm tone of her voice. "Hey, Toni, maybe you're forgetting how old you are now? You're not a baby girl anymore! You are becoming old! And you'll grow old without children or even a husband! Come on, Toni, why don't you just try even for once? And after that, and you didn't really like any of the men you dated then, I will let you be. I will never interfere with your life anymore. I won't get in between you anymore," pleaded her mother because she really wants to have a grandchild with her. Toni sighed as she surrendered to her mother. "Fine. I will clear my schedule this coming Friday, and I will attend the blind dates you are talking about. But just like you said, when I don't like any of them, you will stop pushing me. Okay?" she replied giving her mother permission just for her to stop from setting her up. "You make me happy tonight, sweety. Thank you for doing this for me. Do not worry because rest assured that you will like all the men you will meet on Friday, and you will be confused as to which of them you will choose," her mother happily responded because her daughter finally agreed to what she wanted to happen. "It better be, or I will walk away. I gotta go now. Good night, Mom. Bye," Toni responded briefly, and quickly ended up the call to immediately return to her work seriously. To be continued...
