Chapter 8 Removal of the uterus

692 Words
"Ethan, isn't this a bit too much?" Jasmine looked up at him, hesitation flickering in her eyes. Ethan gently tucked a loose strand of her hair behind her ear, his voice soft. "Hey, I'm in love with you. No other woman gets to have my kid." His eyes shifted coldly to the man being pinned down by the bodyguards, and his whole vibe turned icy. "Besides, who even knows if that baby was mine?" Anna had been sedated and laid out on the operating table. Her body felt like jelly, but her mind was crystal clear. She could feel the cold probe twisting inside her uterus. The pain was unbearable — cold sweat broke out all over her pale face in seconds. When she felt something being pulled out of her, she started to sob uncontrollably. "Uh…" Anna's tears rolled down silently until she couldn't even cry properly — just rasped out soundlessly with a choked voice. Her baby was gone. Again. The second time losing a child. It was enough to break anyone, but Anna's eyes still shone with a terrifying clarity. She hated — truly hated. Noticing the hard fury burning in her gaze, the doctor instinctively pulled his mask a little higher, hesitating a moment before stiffly walking out of the ER. Meanwhile, outside the door, Ethan glanced at Jasmine, who insisted on staying to wait for news. He sighed quietly. She really was too kind for her own good. When the ER doors finally swung open, it was just the doctor who came out. "Doctor, how is she?" Jasmine asked quickly. "Sorry, something went wrong during the procedure. We had to remove her uterus to save her life," the doctor explained, his face full of regret. An accident? From a miscarriage surgery? What is this, the ‘70s? Ethan scoffed to himself — leave it to Anna to get herself in a mess like this. Maybe karma was finally catching up with her. "That's awful…" Jasmine murmured, looking a little downcast and sad. A pity, really. Would've been better if she just died on the table. Jasmine couldn't help her disappointment at hearing the outcome. "This isn't your fault. She brought it on herself," Ethan said as he wrapped an arm around Jasmine, voice full of tenderness. Then he turned to the doctor, voice cool. "Do it. At least she lives." To Ethan, that was already being merciful. He could've just let her die. "Ethan, can't we think of another option? Losing her uterus... that's a huge blow for any woman…" Jasmine said softly, clearly conflicted. Ethan let out a frustrated breath, brows furrowed. "This is the best hospital in H City. We've done all we can." The doctor hesitated, then added, "From what I can tell, she must've had issues after giving birth before. Maybe never rested properly during recovery. That, plus the pregnancy itself, was already kind of a miracle. After this... she probably won't be able to conceive again." "She already had a kid?" Ethan jumped from his seat, his face dark. Startled by his reaction, the doctor paused but still nodded. "Yes." If Anna had a child in the past two years, Ethan would've known. That could only mean—she gave birth before they got married. She dared? And she still married him with that kind of past? Disgust hit Ethan hard as he thought about all the times he had touched her. Suddenly, every bit of pity he ever felt for her made him feel sick. The humiliation burned. That rage inside him? It was boiling over. He pulled away from Jasmine and shouted at the doctor, "What the hell are you waiting for? Do the damn surgery!" The doctor bristled but chose not to argue with an enraged man. Before heading back in, he glanced at Jasmine — their eyes met for a few seconds. Jasmine's lips curled slightly. She nodded at him, pleased. Anna was drowning in that storm of pain and despair, like her soul had already given up. The doctor came back in and gave her a heavy dose of anesthesia. Gradually, everything around her faded to black.
