HUNTER
I stepped out of my room, my boots thudding against the floor. My men fell in behind me, heads lowered. No need for them to get in my way.
“Victor,” I called.
He was at my side before I finished. “My king.”
“Any rogue trespassing through my territory?” I asked, scanning the empty hall.
“None so far, my king,” he replied.
“Good. Excellent.” I turned toward my office. Victor followed, quick and nervous.
“Where is Eran?” I asked without slowing my pace.
“I believe he went out, my king,” Victor said.
“Without informing me?” I didn’t stop walking.
“Yes, my king,” he answered quickly, the words rushed.
“Send all the files to me this evening. I want to go through everything.”
Victor bowed sharply. “Right away.”
“Leave,” I said, my voice low.
He didn’t need to be told twice. He scurried off like a prey in a hurry.
I reached my office, dropped into my chair, and opened my laptop. Pack files. Every detail, every name and every territory movement, I wanted it all in front of me.
The door opened without announcement.
I didn’t look up. I didn’t need to because I knew who it was.
“Where have you been, Eran?” I asked coldly.
“I went in search of a breeder for you, my king.”
My head lifted then, my gaze snapping to him with focus. “And did you find one?”
He nodded once.
“Where is she?” I asked, lowering myself into my chair, my posture deceptively relaxed.
“Just a minute, my king.” Eran turned and left, returning moments later with a girl at his side.
The sight of her hit me harder than I expected. My breath caught. She was… breathtaking. Dark hair cascading down her back, long and glossy. Skin smooth, untouched. There was a fragile beauty to her that pulled the eye despite itself.
And then I felt it.
A slight pull.
Her head was bowed, eyes fixed on the floor, shoulders drawn inward as if she were trying to disappear into her own skin. The scent reached me then, faint, submissive and unmistakable.
Omega.
That was what was wrong.
“Look at me,” I growled.
She flinched before lifting her gaze, and when her eyes met mine, fear flooded them so openly it almost startled me.
“What is your name?” I asked.
“Athena,” she whispered.
I turned on Eran so fast he barely had time to brace himself. “You brought me an omega,” I growled.
Athena startled at my tone, her body jerking as though struck. Even Eran recoiled slightly.
“We wouldn’t know, my king,” he said quickly. “She might turn out to be just the perfect girl for you.”
I rose from my chair.
The effect was immediate. Athena gasped, her body shrinking back, terror rolling off her in waves. I towered over her, every inch of my height a reminder of the power she stood before.
“So you’re telling me,” I said slowly, “that she’s the perfect girl for me? This weak girl, whose bones are clearly not even fully developed?”
“My mind told me to select her, my king,” Eran said, voice tight.
I circled Athena, my steps unhurried and deliberate. I watched the way her hands trembled, how her breathing hitched as I passed behind her. She shivered, a fragile thing standing in the center of my office, offered up like a sacrifice she never volunteered to be.
“Eran Eran ,” I said softly, dangerously, “I curse the day you were born.”
He went rigid.
“Perhaps give her a chance, my king—”
“Out.” The word cracked through the room.
Eran didn’t hesitate. He fled, the door shutting behind him with a final click.
Athena turned instinctively to follow, desperation flashing across her face.
“Stay, omega,” I growled.
She froze mid step, her entire body trembling as she obeyed.
I stopped in front of her, close enough to feel the heat of her skin, the frantic rhythm of her heart. “So you’re the one he brought here to breed my heir.”
“You don’t look like you can handle me, let alone carry my heir.” I walked slowly around her again, letting my gaze linger.
She flushed crimson, shifting slightly on her feet. Her arousal caught my nose and I freeze. The vixen was arouse by my words.
Her breath stuttered. She said nothing, fear locking her throat.
“Remove your clothing,” I ordered, my voice rough. “I want to see how many bones are in your body before I decide if you’re even capable of carrying my heir.”
