Getting Out

1941 Words

Kellen It was finally time. Tomorrow I will be stepping out of this place after being in it for almost five years. Technically, I was supposed to be here for another 8 months, but because I’ve been so good, they are letting me out early. I wish it was years early, but that’s okay, I’m getting out now. I’ve missed my Connie. My buddy, my best friend, the love of my life, my soul mate. I had already been here when he showed up. The moment I saw him I thought, MINE. When they brought him to my cell I was ecstatic. He would be my bunk mate. He looked scared and a little vulnerable. So, I decided right there and then I would protect him. Other inmates saw him and wanted him too, but I wouldn’t allow it. I was his guard, his shadow. I took beatings meant for him and I took them gladly.
