  Matthias We all had things to process. 17 of my kindred vampires had died in the attack, including Jenny.  Boris and the survivors had chased down every last attacker.  Not one had escaped.  We piled fifty bodies out on a rocky escarpment outside of the compound and set the mess on fire.  I threw Daniella's body onto the pyre, and bid an unemotional farewell to a tyrant who had been preying on the world for a thousand years. Our own fallen heroes would be given a proper and respectful burial in our family cemetery.  I debated long and hard about what to do with Jenny's corpse.  How could I weigh centuries of loyal service and friendship against the madness and jealousy that had overtaken her at the end?  And how could I forgive Jenny for conspiring with my enemy to take away my soul
