The tears gushed out as everything rushed to the surface, and all the days I had spent feeling strong came crumbling down here. I sobbed silently, my cries filling the room. Then my sobs reduced to sniffles, and I was finally calm enough to notice the man beside me. He remained exactly as he was, eyes closed, and I couldn’t tell if he was asleep or simply choosing not to acknowledge me. And none of the options settled well with me.
