The drive back to the estate was quiet, but it wasn’t uncomfortable.
For the first time, silence between us didn’t feel like a wall, it felt like something that could be crossed if one of us just… reached.
The tires crunched against the gravel as the car stopped in front of the main house. The packhouse lights glowed in the distance, warm and welcoming. A few of the sentries bowed as Nolan helped me out of the car.
I didn’t need to look at him to know his gaze was following me. I could feel it. I always could.
And this time, rather than trying to escape it or hide, I was happy to know that he was looking at me. I was enjoying it.
The past few days had changed something between us, something I couldn’t quite name, something I wasn’t ready to admit. But there it was.
