"What is she saying?" Allen demands once I hang up.
"Oh, nothing."
"Nothing? Your face tells me that something is wrong."
"What she said can't be true so drop it."
He shrugs.
"Fine. What do you think is taking the police so long to find her? Do you think something is stalling them?"
"Not something but someone."
"Who?"
I glance at him.
"Mom."
"What?"
"If Mom wanted those people to find Lisha, we'd have her back home by now. She doesn't want her with me."
"Why?"
"Apparently, she thinks that Lisha is not good enough for me. Someone has been telling Mom stuff about her and now she sees her as a gold digger."
