Adam keeps me close to him, half protecting me with his body as Alton edges closer.
He quickly looks away when our eyes meet, and I realize that this sucks for him too.
Serves him right.
He tosses the diary at Adam who catches it mid air.
"There's nothing in there, Adam." He says quietly. "I plucked all the relevant pages and shredded them."
Adam shakes his head.
"Alton.."
"Don't say anything. I'm not stupid, Adam. I didn't come here because you asked. I came because I wanted to. Do you really think that I bought the whole forgiveness thing? I know you, and I know that you don't forgive. And when you do, you don't forget."
"Get to the point."
"I needed time to think so last night, I had someone tamper with my phone so I wouldn't be found. I needed to clear my head."
