Ethan came back pretty quickly with food, but not long after, someone else walked into the hospital room.
He had heard Harper mention this woman before-her best friend, Elaine Bennett!
The woman looked super worried. "What happened? A car accident out of nowhere? Is it serious?"
"Not really. Thankfully the baby's okay," Harper replied, her tone neutral, not too warm, not too cold.
The two of them chatted for a bit, crying and laughing as they talked. After a while, Elaine turned to Ethan. "Mr. Johnson, it's getting late. You should head home."
"I'll stay with Harper tonight. You know, it's just easier between us girls."
Seeing how genuinely she cared about Harper, Ethan didn't insist on staying.
For the next week, Elaine stayed at the hospital to take care of Harper.
