CHAPTER 98 AUTHOR'S POV Jake walked into the company with his head held high. The hallway was busy, people moving back and forth, voices low but constant. He stepped into the elevator and pressed the button for the 11th floor. The doors were almost shut when a black bag slid between them, stopping the close. Alicia stepped in, her usual big hat sitting low over her face. She gave Jake a smile, and he returned it with only a raised brow, but something flickered across his expression, but he quickly masked it, trying to act cool. She walked forward and pressed the 11th floor too. The door slid closed, the elevator humming as it began to move. Alicia turned slightly toward Jake, her lips parting like she wanted to speak, but she swallowed the words when she saw he wasn’t looking at her.
