PROFESSOR BLACK POV I dropped the call, my thoughts still tangled around Hope Orphanage, when the bathroom door slid open. Amara stepped out. Baby blue pajamas, bare face, soft hair falling messily around her shoulders. Cute. I stood from the couch without thinking, walking straight to her. She smiled…bright, genuine but I could still see it. The weight. The cracks today had left behind. “Cute,” I muttered, slipping my arms around her waist. She laughed softly as I pulled her closer. “I haven’t had you to myself for days,” I whispered, brushing kisses along her cheek, her temple, her jaw. “Zed…” she giggled, trying to escape, but I tightened my hold. Her eyes met mine. That smile again, beautiful, brave but the worry was still there, hiding underneath. “Thank you,” she whispered
