Chapter 14 Only One Life, One Choice

553 Words
Gina clutched Fabian's hand, crying out from the pain, while Evelyn, teeth clenched tight, was drenched in sweat but didn't let out a single sound. Lucas stood protectively in front of Evelyn, his own body covered in scrapes and bruises. "Evelyn..." She bit her lip hard, the pain so intense it felt like her body was being torn apart. Her hands twisted the bedsheet tightly, her face contorted in agony. She didn't want to show Fabian that pitiful side of her anymore. She was done with that. "Family members, please wait outside." Evelyn and Gina were both wheeled into the OR. Fabian and Lucas were forced to stop at the door, helplessly watching the light above blink on. Lucas, usually calm and collected, was now visibly on edge. He couldn't help but think back to the last time someone lay inside that room—it had also been Evelyn. None of this would've happened if it hadn't been for Fabian. His fingers clenched into fists. Without so much as a word, he swung and landed a hard punch right on Fabian's face. Fabian was caught off guard, staggered slightly, a small cut forming at the corner of his mouth. Already burning with anger, Fabian immediately fought back, slamming a punch into Lucas's jaw. "You've lost your mind worrying about Evelyn, haven't you?" "You bastard! She finally had some peace, and then you show up again to ruin it!" Lucas, like a charging bull, smashed into Fabian. Soon, the two were a full-on brawl. "She never should've married you to begin with!" If it hadn't been for Fabian and Gina, Evelyn's life wouldn't have turned into this mess. Fabian grabbed Lucas by the wrist, eyes cold as ice. "And you think you're qualified to fight me over her?" "Gentlemen, please, calm down. Both patients are in critical condition. We must keep the hospital quiet." The director spoke up, standing respectfully to the side. Only then did Fabian and Lucas release each other, though neither looked any calmer. Just then, the OR door swung open. A young nurse rushed out and whispered something into the director's ear. His expression changed instantly. He glanced at both Fabian and Lucas, hesitating to speak. Lucas, sensing something was wrong, asked urgently, "What's going on?" The director hesitated, but didn't dare hide anything. "Mr. Carter, Mr. Jackson, our blood supply is insufficient. Do either of you have RH-negative blood?" The color drained from both men's faces. It was a small hospital, with limited blood reserves. RH-negative was insanely rare—only major hospitals kept it in stock. Both Evelyn and Gina had it. The crash had caused massive blood loss in both. No wonder the nurse had rushed out in such a panic. No one saw this coming. Fabian reacted first. He grabbed the director by the collar, voice tight with urgency. "How much do you have left?" The director, clearly rattled, stammered, "It might not be enough for even one of them." In that instant, Fabian and Lucas both froze, pale with shock. "Save Gina," Fabian said firmly. Lucas stepped forward, his voice like steel. "Save Evelyn. Or the Carters won't let this slide." Fabian narrowed his eyes at him coldly. "The Carters? If I wanted, I could make sure your whole family gets wiped off the map."
