Deaf?
That one word hit Evelyn like a ton of bricks, crushing her chest so hard she could barely breathe.
"No way... that can't be true. He's Fabian. THE Fabian. He can't be deaf."
Evelyn just couldn't wrap her head around it. Deaf? Fabian?
"This can't be right. You guys must've made a mistake. Tell me you made a mistake. Please." She clutched at the doctor's coat, frantic and wild-eyed.
Tears streamed uncontrollably down her face.
"Evelyn, calm down. The doctor said it's only temporary," Lucas tried to soothe her, caught off guard by how badly she was falling apart.
"No, Lucas, he can't be like this... he just can't!" Her face had lost all color, like fragile jade under harsh light.
She looked like she might collapse at any second, swaying on unsteady legs.
