Detective Jessie Kensington filled her mug with hot coffee and weaved through the crowded department back to her desk opposite her new partner, Bud Reece. File cabinets lined the walls from one end to the other, a stack of file folders piled on top in a messy, disorganized manner. She'd seen them a million times, but today the disorganization stuck in her craw, resentful that she'd left the two-one for this place. She sipped the coffee and made a face...its burnt taste lingering on her tongue, she popped a piece of peppermint gum into her mouth instead.
