1905 Words

I blink hard at what Derek’s said to me. He’s got to be joking, right? He must be!         “Did you just claim that no man in this entire bar would want to go out with me?” I press, scrutinizing Derek for his attitude.         He shrugs, leaning in closer to me. “Do you really believe any of the men in this building will be good enough for you? Esme, you are significantly better than all of these people.”         “How can you just assume that?”         “Because I know you.”         “Oh, is that so?”         “Yes, I’d like to think so.”         I roll my eyes. “Seems like you have a white-knight complex, Derek.”         “Me? No, not at all. Quite the opposite in fact. I want you to find the happiness you deserve, as opposed to wasting time with men that aren’t worth it.”
