“Mom, why aren’t we allowed out at night?” A much younger version of me asked my mother as she tucked me in bed. My mother frowned as if my question was the oddest thing. “Why would you want to be out at night? It’s cold and we can barely see anything.” “It’s really pretty when the sun is down.” I tell her, smiling widely and pointing at the window. I was already eager for her to leave my room so I could watch the dark shadows before falling asleep. She gasped in horror, shushing me harshly. “Rosie, never say that ever again.
